    Here's the history of #52739:
    52739
Black interior. Fitted with air conditioning and power windows.
Sold directly by the factory sales department to first owner Esse Leasing Ltd. in Bologna (I). According to the official documents and Autofficina Sauro Mingarelli in Bologna it was then re-sold on 27 February 1985 by Emilian Auto SpA in Casalecchio-Bologna to Ralph Lauren, owner of Polo Fashions in New York City (USA). Total price paid by Lauren was US$ 93’500. Airfreighted on the 29 March 1985 from Milano-Malpensa airport to New York. Official delivery was taken at Modena on June 16, 1985, by Lawrence Stroll for Lauren (Stroll at the time was apparently working for Lauren’s Polo Company). USA legalized with EPA/DOT by Dick Fritz’ Amerispec Inc. in Danbury/CT/USA. Certificate of origin #27802 issued by the Ferrari factory on 14 May 1986 (!) and signed by the factory’s chief financial officer Ermanno Della Casa. Service and maintenance executed by Berlinetta Motorcars Ltd. of Huntington Station, New York in 1988 and early 1989. Lauren had it registered on New York license plates, "GTO 2". In June 1990 Lauren had a superficial front end shunt which damaged body sheet metal, not underlying structural areas. It was fixed properly by Paul Russell and Company in Essex/MA. August 2000 the timing belts were done. May 2003 still owned by Lauren but for sale through Paul Russell and Company. Now with 8’007 miles and red and yellow colored seatbelt/shoulder harness. Asking price US$ 350’000. June 2003 asking price reduced to US$ 285’000. Sold 2003 through Alex Finnigan of Paul Russell and Company to Bob Tkacik and Peter Star in Maine/USA.

It is not Ralph Lauren who is selling, he has long sold already. Read the detailed chronological history posted earlier.

The price does seem to be a good bit above the market, but I would speculate that it isn't because RL owned it per se, but rather due to the standards of detailing and restoration which is his know for. (albeit controversial)

THe pictures of the car are from the French Quarter Classic. Did RL own the car at that point, or was someone else the owner? I am having a hard time seeing how this car was at the FQC, nevertheless....there it is. Funny.
