I have a 296 GTB 2024….my GTS 2025 will be at the dealership next week… Will the GTS always have a higher residual value than a GTB in the future? I have read and been told that would be the case..if so what are the factors involved ? Rarity? More desirable?
Yes. For all of the hard-top mid-engine cars (458 was the first), the spiders trade for a premium. Prior to that, the spiders were more compromised in terms of (1) looks, (2) structural rigidity of the chassis, and (3) maintenance and reliability of the soft top. These downsides outweighed the benefits of the open-air driving experience. In the hard-top era the balance shifted in favor of the benefits as the downsides became less severe. Obviously tastes vary, but that is the general consensus and is reflected in values. Rarity is more of a factor in the case of limited or numbered cars. For example, F355 spiders were produced in fewer numbers than berlinettas but are worth less (series production car, not limited) for the aforementioned reasons.
