I was wondering today if Ferrari would ever bring back a removable roof car to the lineup. Personally, I think that GTS variants of their respective models typically looks the best. Do you think there is a market for GTS cars?? If so, do you think Ferrari will ever bring them back, in maybe the F430 followup, or the rumored Dino return? I, for one, hope that ferrari does incorporate it into their next generation. I don't consider the Superamerica in the same category, although it is a gorgeous car. I would love to see a ferrari that you can just pop the top off and stow it (a real roof too, not a Barchetta piece of crap). Any thoughts?

I too miss the GTS. I don't think that a 360 or a 430 would look good as one.

I think it the style would come back its just that its not in style right now but in a few years it might be the new thing and all the rage. Fashion is just a cycle. Things come and go.

I agree with the F430 and 360 not looking good as a GTS. Also, their roofs have a slight bubble to them, to cutting a flat panel would be much more difficult than that of, say, a 355. It would be much harder to store. Hopefully, if the proposed Dino makes production, Ferrari will give us craving a GTS a new one.

    The new SuperAmerica is targa-ish.

We probably won't see a GTS anymore on the V8 cars since the convertible tops now tuck neatly away and are very GTS like in appearence with the top down.

Maybe the Enzo successor will have a targa? Doesn't the MC12?

Primary purpose is to squeak and leak.

    Also the secondary purpose.

Tertiary (sp?) is to never be in the trunk when you're driving and it starts to rain on what looked to be a perfect sunny day.

    Always hated 'em.

thge 360 and the 430 will never have a gts due to the aluminum used in the chassis. it is for this reason the spider and the coupe use to different chassis configurations. if ferrari was to design a future gts while using an aluminum chasis, it would have to be a stand alone design, unlike the 246-355, which used a modified body on an exisitng with extra bracing.

Porsche made a targa 996, not sure if they plan to do it with the 997.

No place to store it, a pain to take off and on I wouldn't want another one.

I hope so...I love the look of the coupes but the ability to go topless whenever possible and the targa is kind of the best of both worlds. I've never been a fan of the ragtop, on any car...just my taste. As for the Superamerica..I may be in the minority, but just don't like it. That roof folding back onto the rear just looks "forced"..no natural line to it like even the spiders have with the neat foldaway...Should just leave it a Barchetta and call it a day.

The NSX is all aluminum and they don't have any problems. And the 360/430 having a "bubble" top is hardly an excuss.

    Storing is no problem...again NSX

Too long and hard to take off, you're either lazy or inept is all I can say, takes me a minute tops.

I'll NEVER own a convertable, another t-top maybe. It's fun, but I rarely use it, maybe 10 times a year. Probuly would pass and get a couple to save on weight :)

And last, since Ferrari hasnothing but problems with simple things, like batteries, do you really want another simple thing for them to mess up?

the nsx was designed to accomodate the targa top on its model. ferrari could redo the 360/430 to accomodate this if there was a market for it, but there isn't given the brisk sale sof the spiders.

as for leaks and squeaks, i had a 308 gts and now a dino gts. neither really leak or squeak, granted, i don't make a habit of driving in the rain with cars like these.

when you talk about ferrari creating one mor ething to mess up, why don't you look at the bottom line. it seems to me they have the whole idea of profitability down, i don't know if i can say the same thing about honda when it comes to the nsx.

The last real removeable-roof targa was the type 964. My brother had one. It leaked, creaked, squeaked and groaned. P-mechanic said they did that when new. The 993 and 996 had more of a panorama roof concept - not popular with buyers or P-car enthusiasts in general.

Based on photos, I agree with your take on the Superamerica. Also, may sound weird, but after having SLK for 7 years (the top performed flawlessly, no leaks) I think real ragtops have a little more soul. There's something very sterile and Lexus-like about "flip tops".

I'm in the minority, but I think the GTS versions of the 246/3x8 are better looking than the coupes and more fun, provided you're not looking for a track car. In part it's because those long, flat rear decks make a flat top look perfect. Also, "sports car" to me has always meant an open car, but that's the ultimate no-right-answer discussion.

"sports car" to me has always meant a rigid car and that's the case with a GTB. Maybe I am in the minority but I have never had the urge to own a GTS (or spider). I am GTB guy through and through I guess. Still, I don't see why they shouldn't bring the GTS back.

I think someone should P-shop a 360 or 430 to see if it would look good or not; maybe Ferrari toyed with the idea of the Targa for the 360 and 430 but decided it didnt "fit" ?
