Anyone know a source for these? Thank you http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2321363&stc=1&d=1479738298 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here you go Ferrari 308/328 Airbox restoration lettering stencil | eBay I used one a few years ago not sure if it was from this seller. It was a bit tricky as the stencil comes in two parts - I found spray-on adhesive was useful to stick the stencil down flat to get sharper edges (otherwise spray seeps under stencil). Also you can't use this stencil a second time unless you clean the paint off. You need the stencil to be see-through to line it up exactly. Good luck. I used 3 light coats with 15 minutes drying time between coats.
That would be me. They are waterslides that you embed into the flat clear. I don't have them on ebay at the moment but probably have some printed in a drawer.
I got one and I sent it to a paint shop: they told me it's impossible to do it. Then I went to pro scale model builder and asked him to paint: he told me its' impossible too. So, is there someone here that can paint it with that stencil? ciao
I tried it myself, money wasted....Impossible to get an acceptable result, at least for me. I ended up with a homemade sticker. Regards Peter
I would be interested in the home made sticker, it it's in the same dimension and with the same complete writing as the original ciao
I never tried the stencil myself, but just seeing some of the results it did look impossible to get a crisp result. Someone was offering to make silk screening trays which would work if you could get one of those. The waterslides work nicely and make a clean result. The trick on them is 1. trim to the lettering to hide the margins, 2. use thin coats of compatible clear that doesn't mess up the medium, and 3. achieving the right sheen on the box as the box is not gloss, but rather flat to satin finish.
Ferrari & Lamborghini Parts Supplier. Maserati, Alfa Romeo & Fiat Parts Supplier He will do it, if you want to spent the money. Click on the link and scroll about half way down. The pic shows only "Ferrari" on it, though.
This worked well for me also on my former 308 GTB, but like with everything Ferrari, don't get in a hurry. Also, Dr. Tommy's post above is spot on. If you've got the $300 to spend this is The best and least irritating way to go.
I have one of those stencils, worked well, had to glue it down and spray a sealing coat of black before the white. I only used the "Ferrari" part of the stencil, no UFI part on my '88. If anyone wants to give mine a try, I would send it out for modest consideration to cover postage and such. PM me if interested. Alden Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
but if you glue it to the airbox cover and use a black coat to seal in order to avoid the white paint goes under the stencil, then you will have a good white write but you will destroy the black paint aside it or will have glue on the black paint: how did you do to have a good plack paint aside the white? Thank you very much ciao
Albert, You have to use a light coat of black once the decal is in place to seal the edges of the stencil so the white doesn't spray thru, gives you crisp letters. The cover must be masked from overspray, you also use a special 3M spray glue to hold it in place, it is not a problem and the result is very nice. My first try did not turn out so good, I simply taped the stencil in place and skipped the black sealing spray. I ended up with fuzzy edges due to spray bleeding past the stencil. But that is OK because you simply paint the cover black and try again. Alden Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
I sent mine to Italian Car Parts and was very happy with the result. They restore with appropriate lettering ("Ferrari", "UFI" etc).
