Last night our new pal was on the car, figuring he was guarding it from skeeters and such. Coaxed him off the car so we could cover it. He went under the 308. After we took the cover off this morning, Chelle took the pup out for her morning walk, and our new guard was right back to the same spot. We are thinking he wanted a ride as payment for guarding the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Awesome! When I was young (say... 30+ years back) you'd almost never find a mantis in Illinois. Before I moved out of the state (about 5 years ago), I started seeing more of them. VERY cool insects - not only fun to observe, but they eat a LOT of other bugs you really don't want hanging around. Here's hoping Kato stays with you for quite some time!
We had a bug once, years ago when my daughter was little.................yeah, we let him go. Little big, big freak out when she saw it! Funny thing is, now she is 10 and loves bugs, snakes, etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are an amazing critter for sure. I took the 308 out for a bit of fun today after Kato moved to the flowerbed. If he returns to his post tomorrow, he shall be known as Kato, the Prancing Mantis.
Awww, she does not look thrilled at all. Not many things creeped me out when I was little. The pretty northern pike my Daddy caught changed all that for me. I went to pet it and it got my finger. I flailed about and over the side of the boat I went. My Daddy turned into Father very quickly, he was so mad he had to go in the cold water after me, but Father was more hacked that I lost dinner. Enter my phobia of fish forever!! :/
Haley, There are usually many of them at Ed's. Look around and, if Kato rides with you, she/he may find a few new friends! Great creatures although the females have a nasty habit of eating the males head after mating. Not that unusual even for Homo Sapiens.
I cant find Kato...I think he must have spent too much time with the 308 and really PO'ed his wife. RIP Kato.
i can't resist... can't think of Kato without remembering this classic bit... http://youtu.be/ojboHvHhlOE?t=1m2s

I found Kato, he's doing well and gaining some weight; unfortunately!! Although he hasn't lost his appetite he should start thinking about going on a diet. Should he become too rotund he will become physically unable to provide effective protection services? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLP73ZjdCHc[/ame]
