I don't know about you guys, but in the short time since I bought my '98 355, I have noticed a definite trend: I enter a parking lot, and scout out the available spots which are remote as h@ll, then find a spot with no other car for at least 4-5 spaces. When I come back to my car from the store or wherever, I usually find my car with some (usually decent, at least) car parked right next to it, then 3-4 empty spaces before the next nearest car. Yes, it seems that some guy just HAS to park next to me... could be he just wants a closer look (I have seen people bent over, looking into my car upon return to it-- awkward!) or they take offense at my obvious attempt to keep my car at arms' length. Fortunately, no damage despite all this, so I expect it's just curiosity.

Here is a perfect example of my car left in a parking lot for 10 minutes with no cars parked wthin 10 spaces. The car on the right is parked OK (a new Mercedes SUV), but note how the car on the left is parked the wrong way in the space - with the driver's door very close.

That was the first day I owned it. I've learned a lot since.

Wow, and I thought I was OCD......When in doubt plan in advance for friend(s) or your wife to take the stall(s) beside you!

I'd usually wind up with a rusty pickup truck or SUV or both.

I think they're hoping their ride will learn something. :p

It used to amaze the shopping cart guy in MA that I'd drive my 328 to the supermarket. (Stopping on the way home from work.)

But I wouldn't park out in the open where the carts could get up to speed before hitting the car. I'd park close in, where the minivans would shield me from stray carts and other parkers.

And with the cargo capacity of the 328, I could be in and out, through the express lane, in the time it would take the minivan people to clear the regular checkout lines. ;) So the same vehicles would still be beside me when I got back.

(Besides; at the time, the Ferrari was the most "replaceable" car I owned: the other two were cars I'd bought new that were no longer available in the 'States. The Ferrari I bought used.)
