I was just told that I'm going to have the opportunity to take a couple of customers out on an elk hunt. I'm excited about the opportunity, but I'm afraid that it's pretty late in the year to be able to book something for this fall. I'm looking at outfitters in NM, AZ, UT, WY, ID and MT. My top choices would be ID or MT but I'm pretty sure MT requires you to apply for a license by March 15th of the year you intend to hunt.

Anyone have recommendations of places they've used in the past or heard good things about? Are there any states that I've listed that I can still get tags for this year?

    Huntin' season:
    Open back door.
    Sip coffee.
Aim at a really choice Elk from a herd of 1,000's.
    Pull trigger.
    Sip coffee.
    Harvest time!

Even if he'd have missed ('cause he didn't) the big boy, he was guaranteed to have himself an Elk.

You might still be able to get into a lottery in Montana. See if you can find an outfitter that will help. I would suggest looking in these very high country areas for an outfitter.
Bozeman, Livingston,Hamilton,Kallispell, and maybe Augusta if you want an authentic rip roaring ass kicking Montana experience.

Thanks, I've contacted 22 outfitters so far to see if anyone has hunts available. I've found some in ID and NM that can book us this year, but nothing in Montana thus far. The ID hunts are just across the border from MT, so that should be a similar experience I guess. I'm still waiting to hear back from most of the MT outfitters that I contacted. And YES, I most definitely would like an authentic, rip-roaring, ass-kicking Montana experience if at all possible.
