Guitar Guys: Improving Picking Technique?

As I've mentioned in the past, I've been teaching myself to play guitar. Lately the problem I've been having however, is that I've been having problems developing a picking technique that gives me a good tone and a reliable rhythm.

See the problem is that I'm right handed, however I have to play guitar left handed due to a minor disability. So minor infact that I've NEVER run into problems until I picked up the guitar, my left hand fingers just lack the mobility I need to fret. So the result is that I've picked up fretting techniques rather quickly, but I still sound pretty bad because I can't keep a reliable sound/rhythm going.

Any ideas for drills/things to practice?
