Coming back to the original question: I´m more into solid bodies (I own 4 PRS among others) but in the area of semi acoustics you should also consider Duesenberg. It´s a German brand. Great guitar. Boutique sound at an affordable price.

I finished this one up about a month ago. Plays great. I just didn't care for the mis-matched woods being all natural, so I sanded it down, stained it with ebony stain and then laquired over it after I made some rough spots. Gives a great impression of worn jeans. I'll see if I can take a picture of it assembled and completed. And nope, it isn't supposed to be perfect, but it plays fantastic, sounds great and quite clean - other than that, something I don't have to worry about too much if it gets dinged or such.

I'll see if I can also come up with a few pictures of the Tobias as well.

That's a very nice one. My buddy used to have the George Lynch Serpent, man did that thing rock! I'm an ESP fan myself, here's my explorer:

Speaking of Dave Weckl, I saw him play a show with Mike Stern and Victor Wooten last year. And I must say, wow! He completely blew me away. The best drummer I have ever heard or seen.

    Mornin'

My son has been playing electric guitar for about a year; he's getting there, although hearing the same 8 bars of anything gets a little old after a while.

Lately he's been borrowing various acoustic guitars from friends to play, but doesn't have one of his own.

IF you were spending under $500, what would you get? He likes to play his rock stuff, a lot of Led Zeppelin, and some Beatles, all kinds of 60's and 70's stuff on whatever he's playing, so keep that in mind. And, he's still way up on the front end of the learning curve, so no $10,000 suggestions please.

    Thanks,

    Dave M.

any Alvarez, Fender or Schecter acoustic electric should be great for him to play on. Martin acoustics are nice too but the good old ones are getting expensive. i really like my Schecter, it will take a beating any stay in tune. many of these models i listed can be found for around $350.00 with a hard case. best. michael

Dave, you might take your son to the guitar store and let him play the guitars in your price range, and see which one feels best to him.
Neck width can be a consideration depending on finger length,
    especially with acoustic guitars.
