The mentality of people who speed on public roads and endanger other human beings is beyond me.To many people DIE on our roads , anyone else noticed the Flower tributes to people who have been hit by speeding cars. They seem to be everywhere in London and it is nearly always children.

    Trackdays for speeding or racing.

Agreed on all the points you've made. And i am not trying to make any argument that approves of wreckless driving.

    BUT.

Does anyone know what the statistics are for speed related deaths.

I would hazard a guess that in a very large percentage (90% plus) of the deaths always occured when the drivers were under the infleunce of drink or drugs.

I always make sure that when i put the hammer down i'm stone cold sober and out of urban areas, obviously

Not sure if i should have started a new thread to debate this point and whether anyone wants to.:(

Right then. Here is my two cents! I have done 2 Gumballs and have had great fun! The first year in the US there were no Incidents at all. Last year, in Morocco, we had the Kings invite and the police didn't stop us at all. This led to a lot of people getting over excited. I don't deny I was well over the speed limits at all times but I was obviously fairly careful. Speeding in towns etc was kept to a bare minimum. When you get people like Closeshave who can really pedal a car, there is no need to be totally stupid. The serious speeding can be done in relative safety away from heavy traffic or people. Closeshave has done the same Gumballs as me and has had no problems. His friends and mine have also taken part with no problems. As long as you keep a clear head and use a little bit of common sense, I can't see the harm. There will always be an element of stupidity, but it isn't everyone. Rob Kenworthy drives the Gumball every year at speeds way beyond the norm. He has never had a shunt in any of the events. He just pushes it when it is safe to do so. It may look dangerous, but the figures speak for themselves!
