Sweet! Gumball is starting in NY This year. This start of the event will put Bullrun's to shame! This will be the ultimate adventure and clashes of culture, following partying > in NY, the rally will set off infront of millions driving via Washington DC to > race at Daytona and onto Miami. Then after partying on South Beach everyone > will then be flown in our Russian cargo planes to North Korea's undiscovered > stunning capital, Pyongyang, to watch next years 'Mass Games' inside the > insane May Day 'gold plated' 250,000 seater stadium as > VIP guests of the North Korean Government. This will be a sight in itself - > think 'Team America', but this is real! The cars will be sick!
From the US State Department: "SAFETY AND SECURITY: DPRK government security personnel closely monitor the activities and conversations of foreigners in North Korea. Hotel rooms, telephones and fax machines may be monitored, and personal possessions in hotel rooms may be searched. Photographing roads, bridges, airports, rail stations, or anything other than designated public tourist sites can be perceived as espionage and may result in confiscation of cameras and film or even detention. DPRK border officials routinely confiscate visitors cell phones upon arrival, returning the phone only upon departure. Foreign visitors to North Korea may be arrested, detained or expelled for activities that would not be considered criminal outside the DPRK, including involvement in unsanctioned religious and political activities, engaging in unauthorized travel, or interaction with the local population." Sounds like just the place I'd like to have my exotic car flown into while I'm participating in a trans-continental road rally that killed someone last year and is based around high-speed driving. Sign me up!
That won't happen...North Koreans seem to hate Americans. If they go I don't think everybody will make it home. South Korea I would say ok but not North Korea. I think it is still too early anyway for the route to be decided.
wow im really surprised to hear that theyre doing it again, NY would be a great place to start...not sure about the N. Korea finish though...
NY start is a great idea, the finish doesn't sound smart at all. Any way, I would do NY to FL, that would be fun.
Aside from the obvious problem of "where do you get 93 octane fel on North Korea?" there's a ton of other HUGE problems like, what happens when Krazy Kim decides he likes your car and your woman? This is an EXCELLENT travel log from Artemy Lebdev. There are English translations on the web somewhere, but the photos kind of speak for themselves. http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-1/ http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-2/ http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-3/ http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-4/ http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-5/ Needless to say, I would not drive Noah's Ferrari there.
ACTUALLY SOUNDS PRETTY AMAZING since for the first time in history members of all nations are welcome to visit and party in N Korea>>> they are not just flying in on their own just to chill>>> clearly invited by Kim Jong and am sure given expceptional permission to pass through<<< These kind of Rally's are very appealing to senior Kim>>> BIG car collector/ enthusiast... Him actually giving the Okay for a visit which will be filmed is abolutley amazing... BTW, whats even more amazing, I believe that the drive will be from N Korea through to S Korea... and we all should know their history... I will see Max, founder of Gumball, in St Tropez in few weeks and will get full details of the anticipated event as I am interested...
I'm happy to see a NY start. I'll definately make it up for the launch. As for the North Korea visit, i'm suprised that they've gotten approval. I'd love to visit North Korea to see what it's really like. I'm sure the participants will be closely shadowed and guided by government officials. To those of you who don't know too much about N. Korea, this is an excellent documentary that shows what it's really like for those who live there: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1875007335054132657&q=North+Korea+documentary
The best part of NK are the wonderful communist minders that will be no doubt assigned to each visitor. Not to mention, traveling to North Korea gives you the added bonus of getting a free cavity search whenever you fly in/out of the US
They have a yellow sign to warn you about a blue sign 60 feet down the street. hahaha http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-4/_MG_0446.jpg Great links Emil. Spent the morning coffee time reading them. Very informative.
Gotta love their company description... ONLY in Russia... http://www.artlebedev.com/studio/ As a matter of principle, we don’t work with private individuals, political entities, religious organizations, and jerk-offs as well as those whose beliefs conflict with ours.
so do we... we warn for stop signs and schools zones and all that kinda stuff, although they were a little close together hmmm I am interested to see how this works out seems like a cool/bad idea all at once. no need to worry I wont be there
Great links Emil! That place looks like the most miserable place to live or even visit, but some of the architecture looks cool. Wow, you look at pictures of places like this and you totally appreciate the wonderful lifestyle we have in the USA. Huge apartment complexes and not ONE person in sight - scary to say the least...
