I missed a whole lot, the Ferraris and Lambos were there first hour in the morning, and by the time I arrived they were gone!!! Some participants arrived 'scorted' by cops, and there were cops all around, like hesitant... 'what should I do, ask him for a photo or give him a ticket'. The drivers were very cool, for the most part, but they were already really tired. Some more photos...
Nice video!! Thanks for the link!! Damn, it must be so cool to be joining this crazy rally! Another dream (goal) of mine CIAO...
Wolfgang , the young guy posing by the Enzo with the girl is not the owner of that Enzo. I met the Owner at Magny cours and at Geneva for the Sc rally ( He also owns a black Stradale and installs a lot of cameras on his car ..) and thats not him ! He's a very cool guy and drives like a pro. I saw him at Magny cours with the Enzo passing a Diablo GTR on slicks !! ( yes the race car ) ...
I recognise the Enzo number plate - I met the owner on a recent track day and the driver was kind enough to ride slingshot for several laps. He got the car at Xmas and has probably done more miles since them than most Ferrari owners!!
Aaaaah, thanks a lot buddy - good to read & hear!!! Thats the way I love it! Wonderful to see, that an expert is driving this ENZO! @Julio, thanks for the pic from the "real owner"
Glad to see Rob Kenworthy is in it again this year (silver GT2 with Union Jack painted on the roof - Reg 1CPU) He won the award for hardest driver last year and clocked 206MPH. Apparently he is well known on these things and turned up at a checkpoint on one Cannonball 2 hours before the organisers got there with an average speed of about 150 MPH for the section. I heard there were supposed to be 5 Enzo's, 3 Maclaren F1's, 2 Zonda's and a Koenningsegg taking part?
David, thanks for the infos......I`m deep impressed about Rob K.! Man, what a line up - 3x Mc Laren F1!!!! Just amazing. I believe, we are all waiting here for more pics from our Spain friends Please post some more pics from the super-sport-cars!!!!
There's a lot of photos at the link below. http://www.gumball.no/web/modules.php?name=coppermine Not seen any evidence of the McLaren F1s yet though, you'd expect a few photos.
The guy is not adverse to a few changes. His Stradale had a non-standard CD rack inserted behind the passenger seat made from matching tan leather to his seats. The Enzo has also had its wheels changed/darkened. Here is the car at Magny Cours last month with the guy's Stradale behind it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Man this is suuuch a wild event. I am so envious heheh. Hopefully one day I will join them in this crazy rally. Thank you for the wondeful links and pictures guys! Vasco.R
Here is one of the 3 cars that have crashed so far. Here is video of the start. http://www.passion-gt.com/video/Gum...0_PassionGT.mpg From the Leyland cossie website : BEFORE THE RUMOURS START THE ESCORT WAS INVOLVED IN A MAJOR CRASH I HAVE SPOKEN TO ONE OF THE REYLAND TEAM OVER THERE. THANK F*** FOR THE ROLLCAGE ETC...MARTIN & LEE ARE GONNA BE OK! "BREAKING NEWS: Team 132 just reported a new accident just minutes ago. The car involved is a rally-rigged Ford Cosworth who flipped over 100m ahead of Team 132. Both drivers are injured, with one in need of first aid. Luckily, both drivers should be fine! The Cosworth is reported total wreckage. We will be back with more information as soon as possible. It was the Looney Cosworth that crashed in Marrakech this morning. Team 132 was in front after leaving Marrakech at 8 pm local time today (08.06.2004). There were one or two cars between Team 132 and the Looney Cosworth when it left the road and disappeared in clouds of dust. Parts were shattered over a large area. Team 132 was the first persons to arrive and help them. Fortunately the car was built as a rally car and both persons are ok, circumstances considered. The co-pilot felt unwell and bleed from his nose, so he was taken to a hospital nearby. The car will most likely be shipped back too England. We do not know the reason for the accident. Well I guess they are not very happy now. According to the news there is 5 people in Jail among rthem one of the organization. There are 53 that have received several speed tickets, and the even has been in the news as a criminal act perpetrated by some bored millionares. Each one get its own conclusions!
Pfff, seems like the Gumball went out of control Gents, whats going on there????? Lots of accidents, injured drivers & passengers, crashed cars, jail...... Is this realy all true about and confirmed????? You know the press/journalists are not all serious about but it realy looks horrible. a very sad Wolfgang
Julio, where have you got all the infos? I have googled around but no results!? Got a link? Thanks Wolfgang
To be honest, what was to be expected. The full event was driving, party, driving, party.... no rest at all. Yes it did go out of hand. Gents you can drive fast as far as you are responsible. That is what many of this guys were not. Spain is not like it was, people is really sensible now to speeders, there is some tolerance, however this guys pushed over that limit and endanger others. Clearly average speeds of 250 Km/h in comon roads are not posible unless you are out of your mind. Not everybody was like this though! I am with you Wolgang, and I am now sorry somehow to had supported the idea. A deeper article, but you need to be a suscriber (free) and it is in Spanish Formula 1 en la autopista By the way the event organizer is one of the persons in jail. - Julio
