I saw a rifle I liked today, it was a Walther G22, bullpup. The reviews on it tend to be a bit "patchy" i.e. people love the gun but the reliability makes an 80biTurbo look like an Accord. any opinions????

Also, what about a SigSauer SigPro (sp2022??????)

The G22 is a fun rifle with a pretty good design. A friend owns one and he's never had any trouble out of his. If you're looking for something to plink around with, the G22 would be a great choice.

EDIT: Nikolai, if you're looking for a bullet-proof (pun intended) plinker, check out the Ruger 10/22. There are so many parts and accessories available for the 10/22 that you can build one into just about anything you can imagine. I'm in the process of building a 10/22 myself and it is a lot of fun.

^^^ nice thing about the Ruger is it is one of the very few rifles on the market in which the owner can change the barrel out with regular hand tools.

Takes no special skills to change, not joking.

Bull barrels, for example, are readily available for more serious target shooting at a low price.

They scope up easily as well.

The aftermarket for the 10-22 is large.

In general the trigger action sucks.

    Uro,

You're spot on. My wife gave me the craziest look when I explained that I was taking my brand new gun and scrapping everything but the receiver. Funny how that one little piece is more valuable than everything else combined!

Ermmmmm, I'll honestly say that the Walther looks cool and it's the main reason I want it. I was at the gun range and just saw one and was like "wow, this looks cool".

i don't think it would be a competitive rifle. those rigs they use are incredibly complex. still i've always liked the bullpup configuration.

I'm afraid that the Walther is not even close to a biathalon rifle.

I understand that you're drawn to the looks of the G22, but you should Google "Ruger 10/22" and look at some of the guns that you can build on that platform.

Sure, it's pretty easy in Switzerland. I am only waiting for my work permit to change status some times this year. In fact you can buy used handguns without actually registering them. Only new guns bought at the store have to be registered. I mean a lot of people keep automatic rifles at home because they have to go to the army. You also have to go to the shooting range every year if cityzen.

I am absolutely nuts over the SIG AMT and PE57 rifles. Here in the states they are rare and expensive. Swiss made jewels.
If accuracy is important get a Swiss bolt action but the alluring look of the new guns is enticing.

barrett rifles.....beautiful and well made. For fun I just got a springfield socom16 - it is a blast to fire and actually much more accurate than i figured it would be - it is not a very expensive [relatively speaking] gun, but for the money tons of fun.
