So I have this 92 convertible to sell, and the guy shows up and after driving a few feet in the parking lot, gets his army boot stuck on the gas pedal while he's using his other foot to push on the brake.... before I can slip it into neutral, he rams into a van!

It goes on my insurance.... :(

Oh man! Sorry to hear about that. It looks like you're gonna need a new clamshell and front bumper, unless you have a good 'glass man. Did the guy say anything or try to make amends?

    Sorry to hear.

My policy has always been when I have your money in my hand you can test drive it.
You don't like it, we can then discuss a return.

Is that the total impact to you??

No escalation of premiums, or more importantly the dimished value on the car, now that the incident is documented on the history.

Hope the shop gets it sorted for you!
    What a dufus....

I don't know yet if it will escalate my premiums. The adjuster said that it doesn't go against me as the driver, he is listed as the driver. But the claim is on my policy, so yes that could affect my rates.

I guess I should be happy that no one was hurt. I had let him sit in the car and pointed out he was too big. We got back out and walked around the car, and he asked if he could just drive it in the parking lot. I said, "are you even going to buy it if you don't fit?" He said "I'll buy it if I'm comfortable driving it"
I new he was probably lying, but I figured, what can he do to it driving around the parking lot. What a mistake. The impact was slow, only 5 mph, he had the brake on as well as the motor revving.

Chuck said the repairs would run over $9k. So Progressive totaled it and gave me a check for the loss.
Tragic end to a beautiful car.

I could have bought it for around $1,600.... it had slight frame damage so it would have been a branded title. I don't have the space or time to take on repairing it.

Hopefully you got at least $15,000. That's the only way there could be a happy ending

I got $10,500 from Progressive, and the guy that wrecked it has dodged my calls. How do I get an army soldier to pay the $500 deductible like he said he would?

So he did not have insurance ? I admit I did not check if my last car buyer (DD)had a
current insurance card on him......note to self to do so.

If he does, your deductible and possible additional loss could be covered by
your insurance company getting it from his insurance.

So what if he is a Army guy, still responsible for losses.
File a claim and they may garnish his check each month-

It doesn't matter, in the sense that I gave him permission to be operating the vehicle so it goes on my insurance. My insurance may then later go after his insurance company.
He agreed to pay my $500 deductible, said he would mail the check, then disappeared.

Did you not take note of any of his information such as his DL# or insurance information prior to allowing him to drive your vehicle? Lets suppose he honored his word and paid your deductible, you may still be liable for increased insurance rates as well as points on your driving record. I believe your insurance carrier will investigate and then make a determination based upon their finding's. For instance I offered my parents the enjoyment of the BMW experience if they had the urge/need or desire, spoke with my carrier prior to any driving experience, and supplied my insurance carrier with DL numbers, names and addresses of those who were given verbal permission to be operating my vehicle without me being present.

I am simply just trying to think of anything that could help you.

Keep us up to date ok?

    Gregg

Call the base commander. When I managed a car rental company I had a sailor who refused to return a rental car and basically told me it was on the base and I couldn't get it to repo it. One call to the base commander and the car , (washed and vaced) with the rental balance was at the office two hours later. The base commander assured me the jackass wouldn't be having a very pleasant afternoon.
