This is something I've often wondered about and you used to hear more of in previous models. And that is.... huge repair bills as mileage goes up in a Ferrari. Now I wonder if that is the same case with a 458/spider ? I'm asking the people on this forum who have 458's with 30,000 miles plus what has your experience been as far as repairs with these cars as the mileage goes up? Thank you for your input.

My 458 Spider only has 13K miles, but one of my neighbors has 42K (last I checked) on his 458 Spider, neither has required any repair work, just the normal annual service and one battery change each.

mine has got 30k miles now, only thing out of the normal maintenance was a rear wheel bearing replacement, very likely due to the previous owner installing spacers, as the bearing is not a separate item, the whole hub needs to be replaced, (2200 USD)

I've always heard good things about the 458's reliability. I think the best examples of high mileage reliability can be found in rental car fleets and exotic racing experience companies. They rack up tons of hard miles on their cars, so are a true test of reliability... and I've always heard that their 458s have almost always been the most reliable, with very minor issues.

The only bad story I've heard was one exotic car lapping experience in U.K had to rebuild an engine at 45k miles.

How much does a typical 30k mile service cost on 2014 458 Spider?

Nothing mechanical No Cels. Had to replace A/C plenum motor in dash. All problems electrical however with the cluster and screens. 35K mi Usual maintence. Plugs changed this year. AG battery last year. If it wasn't for the electrical issues, attempting to get a key and all those attendant issues its pretty reliable. Brakes still good. Usual maintence oil, filters, belts, preventive stuff nothing major.

I'm at around 37k miles, had my 458 for 2.5 years. Things that went wrong in that time: steering rack leak, NVO board replacement, one of the displays in the dashboard, 2 x shock absorbers rebuilt. Can't say it's more reliable than my 360

Had my 458 spider for 11 years as original owner, 145,000 miles.

Had my sharr of service issues including fuel pumps leaking, intake head ball bearings seizing up due to their factory coatings disintegrating and then needin new alternator and steering pump AC pump. Later there was an oil pump leak and then an engine out valve cover service.

That service led to the death of the engine. The tech didnt have enough practoce with this sort of service Honestly I cant blame him because 99.99 of owners arr
    afraid to
    drive their cars

I should have sent the car
    to a racing team
to the UK or Italy where skilled hands are more common.

Still feel upset about the fact that the car came back to me with more and ultimately fatal
    problems

Car was running super hot Wasn't like that before!
Semt car back 2 times . Not worries!

If you live in the Los Angeles /Encino region send me a PM before you give your car to the same guys (all likeable) but totally inexperienced.

The 458 is a nice car and fairly reliable

But the newer ones like the F8
    are better.

Maybe change coolant thermostat every 40 K miles as preventative measure.

This might save your engine. The thermostat valve as I understand is closed when you start the car in order to speed up the warming of the engine. Then it opens and allows the coolant to reach the radiator for normal driving and operating temperature.

However when it fails your engine gets too warm and by the time you realize that there is a problem the high heat can melt your rod bearings!

    Ferraris solution is new engine

Wouldn’t a high temp warning give you adequate warning? My temp gauge is pretty accurate. Also change coolant every few years.

Somehow i believe that the thermostat wont give you much of a warning. Its cheap to replace but most never consider that its part which can and will fail unpredictably. It failed on my 360 and I was lucky enough to be able to pull over and shut down.
I think my mileage was around 40K miles
