Hackintosh i7 build...

Thanks & not sure what you are saying with the reference to "good ram"???

& is the 2600k i7 a good choice or is it better to try and get to a xeon as the OP in the other thread has(a double xeon setup is a little ambitious for me right now)

trying to keep budget to $1k

 

I have it on primary machine, 2600k, some asus board (dont remember which) and two Radeon cards driving 3 monitors. All works natively with 10.7. It is fast, especially clocked close to 5ghz, but good old 980x based (or w3680 which is the same cpu, but market xeon) still better on multithreading apps. And Asus Rampage mobos to compliment are nice and work great with osx

 

Any tips? I tried the Hackintosh bit a few years ago, but abandoned it due to issues with instability.

I just ordered Snow Leopard install discs from Apple since I can't find my old ones. I did manage to cobble together a really good VM build from those discs, but I need a native install so I can evaluate how well OSX works on my network and how well I like the Final Cut Pro demo before doshing out on a 27' iMac.

Insanelymac and tonymac forums are your best friends. My mobo is ASUS P8P67 Pro all works in 10.7... Video cards Radeon HD 6870. Good luck!
