First corner, we all get bunched up and a Hinda Civic runs into the rear bumper of my 355Challenge. Bumper broken (repairable) and the muffler tip broken, diffuser broken. Thank God nothing serious and the corner worker came afterwards and said he can not believe I did not spin.
Of course the race was over.

Took off the parts and will race again today. The show must go on :)

Sorry to hear that. What kind of race category allows Hondas and Ferraris to race eachother anyway??

    Ciao, Peter

Sorry to hear that Martin... Put an extra long tow hook on next time, make him "feel" the hit! People don't realize that braking markers change with race traffic. You can brake at 200' all day long in practice, but when it comes to the start of the race and you are mid pack, you better brake 100' sooner as there is no clear corner ahead. RACE TRAFFIC!

When I was watching our very own Rob Lay in his 355C take on a bunch of Hondas, Camaros and other relatively cheap metal I was stunned by his bravery. Yes he won the race in the Ferrari, but what if one of his competitors would have hit him?

I once tracked my 308 with a bunch of Alfas and Fiats and felt very much out of place. It is no biggie for them to hit me, but it would sure be a bad day for me and my checking account.

Welcome to the Club Martin! Sorry to hear, but like I tell everyone "It's not IF you are going to crash but WHEN. Glad to hear you are ok, cars are rebuildable.

BTW, are you going to come to Sebring HSR? We will be there. There is a one hour night Enduro and a 3 Hour Historic Enduro that your 355 can compete in.

Here's a photo of me driving a 355 Challenge in the night enduro several years back. Had a blast, finished in the top ten overall behind some GTP and other very fast IMSA cars. We turned the stock headlight covers upside down and mounted Hella lights to them plugging into stock harness power.

Heck, I remember going to Charlotte (Lowe's) for an SCCA drivers school with Watts Hill and Tom Williamson and watching Tom win the Big Bore "school" race in the only race-prepared 288GTO ever built! Out there with a bunch of tired old GT-1 and Mazda RX-7 GT-2 cars, we didn't even think about someone barreling into the back of him at T1, we just assumed Tom would stay far enough ahead of them that he's be out of danger! Hah! He did, thankfully!

Sorry to hear about that, Martin.

Sorry to hear that Martin. Do you still have the GT4 that you were going to convert to a racer?

Thanks guys, yes I am okay and the car just had minor damage. Fibreglass and the muffler tip as well as the diffuser. I took the parts off and raced on Sunday.

Despite the alternator sputtering I qualified 2nd but waved everybody by on the formation lap. The car was just not running right, felt like on 4 cyl.. So I kept in the back and mid race the engine freed and I made it from 10th to 2nd just to throw it all away going too hard into the hairpin and having another engine sputter just that moment and losing it. A quick turn 180degrees and I was back in 7th, where I finished. Well...first in class at least :)

Car will be back in one piece in a week.

    David:
don't think I will make HRS but for sure CHRA in April. In between I will do some Miata races with SCCA.

    Jay:
no buddy, I sold the GT4 to Italy of all places. Found a new home. My other GT4 project I sold to a gentlemen in Hong Kong who is going to race the car there in some series. The car was prepared by Lucianos in Sarasota for a year.

    Could be worse....

Imagine going 2 years in the Ferrari Challenge...without a scratch..literally

Then on the last weekend of the last race...getting slammed at turn 5 at Watkins Glen by another Ferrari Challenge driver...who stupidly forgot to hit the brakes during a spin (Guess he missed the driver class where they talked about "2 feet in" or in the case of a 360...."1 foot in")

and to top it off he owns a Ferrari dealer/repair shop..and blamed me ....till I showed him the video

Cost me 80k...not to mention the depriciation on the car because of the crash

You should only race what you can easily afford to repair. Still, OUCH! Next time don't race with ricers, only against hystorical ferraris, their owners would be so scared of scuffing their car, you'll be laping them every 3 laps.

Its a good time to think about a HANS, a decent containment seat or at least side nets and ditching that crappy 355C stock bolt in cage for a real one. Today you got lucky.
