Well, I had my 348 all tucked away inside an inflatable bubble for the winter. We had a nice warm evening last weekend (Sunday), so I "unpacked" her and my wife and I went out for dinner. Big Mistake!!

On the way back home I hit an animal - likely a large racoon. Caused damage to the front spoiler. I continued to drive home and a few miles down the road, the car lost battery power and ultimately, quit. Towed the car home and called Hagerty Insurance.

This is my first claim so I have to admit I am predisposed to getting screwed somehow. The adjuster came out and he was a nice enough guy, told me to choose the repair shop. The only Ferrari dealer around is 60 miles away - Cauley. They picked it up this morning.
Anyone have prior experience with Hagerty insurance?
I am hoping this all ends well....I'll let everyone know of my experience anyways. I guess I have had Hagerty for my classic cars for about 8 years or so, but never had a claim of any sort.

I have a 348 insured with them as well,no claim with them as of yet; they only asked me to email pictures when I first insured it, and the agent on the phone really wanted to make sure that it won't be a daily driver, just weekend car and going to shows...etc. anyway good luck with the claim, keep u posted.

Mark, your profile says you have a 1990 348, which would have the battery in the back. I can see how possibly crunching a racoon might damage the battery or the cables if you had a later 348 with the battery in the front, but I'm curious what happened in your case. Did you get any indication that the belt was knocked off the alternator in the collision?

I have repaired a few cars in my shop that were covered by Hagerty. One of the best insurance companies I have dealt with. They accepted my estimates and told me to make sure the customer was happy. Never questioned any supplements for additional damage found after teardown.

Great to read this. I've got Hagerty, but I hope never to need to find out how good their customer service is!

I'm really sorry to hear this Mark, but I'm glad you and your wife are safe. I know this feeling, not in the Ferrari, but I have hit several deer, birds,rabbits... I wouldn't think that should be to difficult for a good shop to fix.

Might make sense to just pay for that yourself? Good luck getting it sorted.

I have Hagerty for my 328 but never had to use. Customer service seems great so far w/ details. My other 3 cars are w/ Allstate. Key is accurate in driveway estimate, check cut ASAP, & revisions if necessary w/ no hassle. Please let me know how it goes.

What is the limitation by having Hagerty as an insurance?

I insure a few cars with Hagerty. I had one of those cars stolen while it was in the custody of a local repair garage a while back. The car was never recovered.

Hagerty was the only good part of that experience. They were sympathetic to my loss, worked with the local police to gather documentation, and quickly paid the full agreed-value on the policy. I'd rather have the car, but I have nothing but good things to say about Hagerty as an insurance company.

thanks for the vote of confidence in Hagerty. I am waiting to hear from the shop.

Jeff, the car lost battery power somehow. The lights started to dim and it started to run rough etc. I pulled over and had it towed home. I don't know if the belt is off the alternator or not. The mechanic thought that maybe a ground connnector came loose. If it is unrelated to the collision then it is quite a coincident..

SRFCity.......I thought about just paying for it myself as I have a $1,000 deductible anyways. The adjuster convinced me otherwise...I guess the front repair is going to be more costly then it appears to me.

The only good thing about paying for it yourself would it wouldn't show up on a car fax report.

Hagerty has been a total waste of my time......what good is collector car insurance if they want to repair it as if it is an 1990 GMC truck. I will never use them again, period!

Usually how it works is a second raccoon goes around back and does the cables after the first one stops the car.

So did I miss something or am I just that slow this week. It sounds like you weren't happy about how Hagerty handled the situation. Care to post any details or at least fill us in a bit? There are other customers out here who would like to know what went wrong!

Hopefully I'm just reading your post wrong or something?

Interesting, Hagerty's advertising campaign, at least that which they air on TV during the auctions, is that they pay special attention to the details. Seems that you situation is to the contrary???
