I'm searching for my first Ferrari, which I'm hoping will be a '99 F355 Spyder, and, admittedly, I'm probably obsessing over this way too much. But I'm curious to see how much stock some non-beginners like me put in Haggerty's Average Value. The car I have my eye on is listed by a dealer for $68k and Haggerty says its average value is only $50,500. The car has 21k miles, it looks phenomenal, and the Carfax says there's no accident history. But it seems like a huge gulf (about a 33% difference). Would love to read some feedback. Thanks in advance.

I put little in it. Hagerty's reports that having a manual transmission in a 360 Modena adds $50k to the value. While I wish that were true, it just doesn't translate to the real world. Do you own research, look at asking prices, completed ebay listings, etc. and come up with your own budget. Value can value GREATLY due to condition, miles options, colors, maintenance history, records, recent maintenance, time of year, current collector value, etc......so all I can say is DO YOUR RESEARCH. I researched for about a year before finally pulling the trigger. The 355 section here would be a great starting point.

I used Hagerty's report to get an idea of my budget requirements for the car I wanted, and low and behold, they were within about 5% of the amount I paid for a #2 car.

    Your mileage may vary.

I think that's an erroneous comment on Hagerty. You can search specifically for a manual transmission (or F1) Modena of a particular year. I suggest ignoring it.

$68k for 355 if in good condition is about right. Next year is the 25th yr for this series too. At over 6k rpms you won't find a more satisfying car at that price!

Manual is worth more. Red with Tan typically sells for more. Mileage also is a factor.
How recent the Major Engine out Service. Sticky Interior pieces addressed. Dash Shrinkage?

Mine is a 97 Spider, Engine Out just done this year. All Sticky interior repaired. New Dash. Gated 6 Speed. Tubi Muffler with Hyperflow Cats. Red with Tan. 37,000 miles.
    I paid $70K

Car is a blast to drive & has one of the most beautiful exhaust notes ever made.

Haggerty does seem to lag on a some prices when they are moving, like the collapse of the C2 Corvette market.

The biggest problem when using Haggerty is most people think more of the condition of their car than it should be rated. Just because you think it is a perfect driver just below concours condition doesn't make it a #2. It may well be a #3 if evaluated objectively. And so on, and so on.

I really appreciate the posts. I've been reading CarFax reports and talking to other Ferrari owners for about 2 months now, which I was beginning to think was ridiculous. Then seeing RedNeck say he spent a year researching his car doesn't make me feel like I'm being a slowpoke about the process. I think I'll know it when it feels right (combination of price and quality of the F355 Spyder).
