"His drives from Monaco to Maranello were as legendary as his on-track exploits. He and Pironi would take turns each to see who could keep his foot flat to the floor for the longest, without lifting, with the passenger operating the stop watch. I believe it was Scheckter who said that a normal person would take 5 and a quarter hours for that journey. If you were really quick you could do it in 4 and a half. Gilles routinely did it in 3 and three-quarter hours." from The Fastest Grand Prix Driver Ever by Steven Roy
Carol, I am obviously not a great role model either, as I giggle with delight as I hang the tail out going around turns. Sometimes I even turn off the traction control where you need to hold the button down for 5 seconds, for the express purpose of such jackassery. I know a lot of Australians are into cars in a big way - is it seriously that uptight there that if you fishtail coming out of a turn, you get your car impounded? That's insane! My Oz buddies are into big block American cars from the 60's. What are those cars good for if not hanging the tail out around corners?
I thought this part of the article was revealing... Hamilton was interviewed for around half an hour in the car, and would have been routinely breath-tested. *****Hamilton, who was visibly upset, had his car towed away and impounded and will also receive a fine. There could also be a procedural summons to appear in court within the next 12 months. ****It is understood he told policemen at the scene that he was worried this would dent his reputation. Dent his reputation???? Sounds more like he was trying to talk his way out of it. Nice try though! So, do you think Hami will be seen toddling around town in a rented Holden now?
It was just a boring uninteresting 4 door sedan. Looks like a run of the mill hire car from the news film i have just seen.
Impounded it for smoking his tyres leaving the track!!!, Jeez that nearly beats your lot 2300 drivers were caught by cameras deliberately set up between rally stages, and on bridges over the M4 motorway. Those caught included rally drivers Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Tommi Makinen, Carlos Sainz and Markko Martin.
"He will be charged on summons with improper use of a vehicle." That right there is a statute with a myriad of possibilities. Reminds me of the thread in Silver right now; "Sex With Your Car"...
I personally like the car, and when I was in Melbourne a couple years ago I got the feeling the people there weren't to keen to have a race in that park. It's a very "Green" area if you get my drift.
Here we have cameras on police vehicles that record everything, regardless of who you are. They may have the same system in Oz. And their recordings come against the cop too, if he doesn't act, in fact removing his discretion . Big brother is everywhere, watching us!
True enough, and there is also the "pay vs play" thing. Yeah, we all have a little bit of fun with our cars from time to time, but if we get caught, we pay for it. Just part of the deal. If I'm hanging the tail out and I get stopped, I expect some consequences. If there was a cop within eyesight of my antics, that means I didn't check the playground first, and that should be a wake up call.
Not forgetting that they now also use street cameras to send parking fines through the post. Yes with 25% of the worlds surveillance cameras right here in the UK, we are controlled by big brother Its all about raising cash for the government and the motorist is the easiest target in the UK bar none. So its hardly surprising that Australia are following the mother country's example.
yes thats true if u kill someone u get away with it u do a little burn out and they lock u up and throw away the keys
