These qualities you speak of ... qualities that contribute to the definition of "class" ... are rather timeless, in my view.
In these particular days, it does seem like Hamilton is in touch with a younger demographic, the one that does actually follow influencers. The way he acts is reaching and inspiring people who haven't hit their career earning stride yet, but could have "Mercedes money" over the next 10-15 years as they get older. Meanwhile, those currently able to consider a Mercedes purchase tend to be from a generation that deplore the concept of documenting their entire lives and every little dance they think up on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc. The way Hamilton interacts with his fans is also very politically active for a sportsman and that doesn't resonate with them either. The older you are, the more likely you are to have a "just shut up and drive" attitude for F1 drivers. I'm in neither demographic... I deplore influencers but still can't consider a Mercedes. All the best, Andrew.
So Hamilton's "behavior" appeals to those who: - aren't old enough to earn any real money - aren't old enough to afford a Mercedes - are young enough to follow "influencers" Based on many posts in this thread alone ... I agree completely! Well said
That argument is race-baiting ridiculousness, because he already presented as a clean-cut gentleman when he was a young man at McLaren. Furthermore, saying that a 38 year-old black man in 2023 can’t be expected to be as gentlemanly as any paragon does not hold up either for obvious reasons.
The question is begged: Are there different definitions of "classy" or "gentlemanly" behavior ... based solely on the color of a person's skin? If so, how is this not the very definition of racism?
First of all it's Stirling, not Sterling, secondly what does the colour of someone's skin has to do with his behaviour? Moss is known for losing a championship after going to the stewards to defend his rival (Mike Hawthorne), without his intervention, Mike would have been disqualified and he would have won the championship. Hamilton, on the other hand, is known for going to the stewards and lie, trying to get Jarno Trulli penalized so he could gain a place. This is the diference between them, and it has nothing to do with colour, it's just a matter of principles and perhaps education.
Right. Keep telling yourself that Hamilton is not held to a different standard. BTW, how is everything on Mars? You mean as "gentlemanly" as this little gang of five that cherry pick everything that Hamilton says/does that doesn't suit you (and them)?
Good of you to mention that sportmanship existed in years gone by. Stirling Moss was a gentleman, in an age of gentlemen. Sportmanship is something today's drivers don't seem to have any notion. I suppose the stakes are higher nowadays.
You said I was no gentleman. This isn’t about me, or anyone else in my “little gang.” It’s about your poorly crafted arguments.
"You mean as "gentlemanly" as this little gang of five that cherry pick everything that Hamilton says/does that doesn't suit you (and them)?" You are saying I/we are not "gentlemanly," unless you are being ironic, which I doubt.
I'm going to sidetrack your little arguement becasue I needed a place to save this. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not at all trying to be "ironic". Do you and your gang of Lewis haters think that you have been "gentlemanly" in your comments/name calling about a guy you DON'T know, a guy who you judge based on media reports (goodness knows those are truthful), or a guy you judge based on his radio transmissions to HIS team, while driving faster, in more traffic, than any of you guys have ever seen? Face it...you guys are nasty and mean spirited about a guy that you are making 100% decisions based on 40% of the knowledge. And that is NOT what "gentlemen" do.
You're really not in any position to act sanctimonious or judgmental after writing things that were inadvertently bigoted, but at least you stopped being feckless and finally admitted that's what you really meant.
"You are allowed your opinions but not your facts" Words to live by. And no, I do not know him personally. What I know is that "opinions" from media, forum keyboard warriors, etc are NOT facts. They are "opinions". Lewis may be the biggest SOB in history... OR Lewis may be the kindest soul in history... OR Like most, somewhere in between. Since I don't KNOW him, I have no idea. What I do know is that I won't demean the man based of Bernie Eccelstone's comments, the media, or keyboard warriors on FC. I can't be any more clear than that.
You actually don't know the definition of either "bigoted" OR "feckless" based on your continued attempts to paint me as a bigot for pointing out that Lewis is....black....and has lived his life under different standards than white people. If you don't get that, you are living in an alternate universe.
