    (From SpeedTV):

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he intends to leave Formula One with a better legacy than Michael Schumacher's.

Despite showing a reluctance to wade into the rekindled "Rascasse scandal" of 2006, the McLaren driver admitted in Monaco that Schumacher's reputation as a cheat is not one he wants to emulate.

"When I think about history, it is not just about me, it is about how my family raised me, where we came from," British newspapers quote the 25-year-old as saying in Monaco.

"For that to be tainted by something like that would devastate me."

When asked if he wants to be thought of in a better light than seven time World Champion Schumacher, the 2008 World Champion admitted: "Absolutely.

"I want to be remembered as a fair driver, a clean driver, one who always drove with his heart, who battled through thick and thin to score the points and the championships I will hopefully earn."

He also denied he is now desperate to get back on terms with his teammate Jenson Button, who despite not always looking as quick as Hamilton has won two races and is leading the World Championship.

"I don't feel I'm at the point where I need to 'turn it around' because what needs turning around is just my fortunes," insisted Hamilton.

    (Is Hamilton's memory short?)

Why even go there? For starters, your a few championships shy of leaving much of a legacy at all. Shut up and driver yer car.

Wasn't he still playing in the kiddie cars (GP2) when that happened?

And has he forgotten about the "lying to stewards" thing at Australia?
Yep: devastating. It erased his memory. :D

I would say it's the pot calling the kettle black, but then I would be called racist...

Hamilton needs to STFU and just drive the car.

The kid has INCREDIBLE talent. He just needs to quit doing and saying stupid ****. Keep your mouth shut, win several championships and dozens of more races before you start proclaiming yourself one of the Great Ones...1 WDC and a dozen wins leaves you way down the pecking order, kid (btw, JV also has 1 WDC and @ a dozen wins and no one considers him one of the Great Ones ;). Just because you have the talent to be one of the great ones does not mean you ARE one of the great ones...potential does not equal accomplishments.

He is certainly racking in the "Doh!" moments he is going to regret down the road.

Ashame to see as he is an outstanding driver with great car control and balls of steel, but instead he is becoming known more for his faux pas (or is that faux pi?).

I would like to see him keep his head down and recover his reputation, but that all comes down to him. It certainly looks as if his success is going to his head. With McLaren's infrastructure, I am surprised that he keeps making these PR disasters...

    Frank

p.s. I would not be shocked if MS put him into the wall at some point. Old Lions have pride...

Show me a F1 driver who hasn't done a dirty deed and I show you a dog gone slow. :)

MS has cheated, Hami has lied. Senna has deliberately taken out Prost and Alonso happily used the data stolen from Ferrari. It is par for the course.

Hami needs to get off his high horse and shut up. They all live in a glass house, which is built on thin ice floating towards the gates of hell.

Hamilton is a brilliant driver, I just wish he wouldn't act like a princess all the time. The day I see him rolling out of a gentleman's club with a bottle of Moet with 2 girls (or even better, Nicole) he'd be up there in my list. So far he's just a sissy worried about his nails who happens to be able to drive.

If Hamilton did STFU and just drive, or any driver did for that matter. Then you would all have absolutely nothing to talk/hate about. Then every one will all be complaining, because the drivers don't say anything.
I for one like to hear what the drivers say, good or bad. I like to see them drive and i like to hear them.
Watch this turn into yet another Hamilton hate thread:rolleyes:

I like to see them drive. When they open their mouth is when the trouble starts, which is why Kimi was so cool. He would never make an arrogant comment like this.

I'm the first to agree that I prefer drivers who talk and complain over those who just drive.

That said, it should make sense what they say. Comments like these from Hami are just hipocrisy.

You do know that the *****cat dolls are just the singing division of a gentleman's burlesque club dont you?
He has been quite a few times. In fact only last year there were pictures of him in a gentlemen's club with Nicole by his side and both were watching a burlesque show.

Hamilton is an excellent driver with spurts of brilliance. However the new rules under which F1 runs, requires a kind of temperance that he has not yet developed. Hamilton is arguably the fastest driver out there right now, however, with the no refueling rules, fastest does not win the race; tire preservation, with as much speed as you can preserve the tires with, does. This is why Button is leading Hamilton right now.

People can talk with out coming off like arrogant fools. If you would notice, Hamilton makes an idiotic statement about every week, and its gotten even worse lately with his dad not keeping him in check. He needs to realize that in terms of "legacy" right now he is right up there with Jacques Villeneuve and has a LONG way to go to be "of of the best drivers of all time."

Also, I found it funny that he gets on his high horse with comments about MS yet his hero is Senna? HA, one of the dirtiest drivers in the history of F1 right there.

He could at least be consistent:

    Not so long ago-

Now, in regard to competing against MS:

    Adding:

The guy REALLY needs to get hold of some PR people because it is starting to get embarrassing for him...

Hami rules, most exciting driver in the Championship in years. Imagine what a bore this season it would have been had he not been around. I still think the championship is going to come down this year to him and Alonso.

No one needs an excuse to bash Hamilton. He continues to amaze with his utter ignorance. I do appreciate his aggressive driving, until he crosses the line and becomes an ass and creates a dangerous situation. His major problem, he just needs to shut up and prove his point on the track. At this point, he is not doing that.

Hamilton is an ass. At least McLaren has one driver that has class.
