Kimi has a coolness you cant fake. He is the real deal. Pure awesome. His drunk episodes rule. Danica Hamilton should drink more and talk way way less.

I think I'm starting to understand better now...it's not his behavior you guys dislike, it's the fact that he's a marketing presence in F1. You think his status as the first black driver in Formula 1 has garnered him underserved attention, is that it? (just like Danica is the "first" female race driver...which isn't even true)

Is that what this is all about??? I guess it will all make sense if that's the case...smh

FTR, I don't think he's had one iota of the hype machine that Danica has....not even in the same universe, not to mention the fact he's actually won the WDC, while Danica has only lucked into a single victory her entire career.

    Where'd that come from?
I think that you're the first to mention race in this thread.

For all those who are saying Hamilton is done at McLaren and that they want rid of him, explain this part of the story (From: http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/102253 ) :

"However, McLaren has been assured by Hamilton's management team that no deal has been finalised and that Jordan's claims are incorrect.

A McLaren spokesman told AUTOSPORT: "We have been told by Lewis Hamilton's management team that the story is untrue.
    "

Why would McLaren want any reassurances that no deal has been done with Mercedes if they want him out? That makes no sense whatsoever! If they've decided he's got to go regardless, then they won't care if he has a contract with Mercedes or not!

Now, I'll apologise to Kraftwerk straight away (I think you'll appreciate the reason for it though Steve!), but I'm going to drag this old $h!t up again: "Spygate" back in 2007.

This was a mess not of Lewis Hamilton's making, and it wasn't initially the McLaren team at fault. However, as the story unfolded, it cannot be denied that McLaren as a team did not handle the whole situation very well at all and there was an element of a cover-up going on! (bear with Me Steve! - My point is coming up next! :) ):

During all of that went on, Lewis faithfully stuck by the team through it's darkest hour, despite being caught up in a situation that makes this latest controversy the equivalent of being caught smoking behind the bike sheds at school.

There have been numerous occasions when the car and the team have let him down and cost him race wins and possible WDC's, but he didn't publicly criticise the team for what went wrong (apart from the occasional: "Ah!- what the hell guys! - what happened there?" on the radio), he accepted that they win as a team and lose as a team.
(And yes, there have been occasions when the shoe has been on the other foot and it's been Lewis who has let the team down, but again, this was dealt with in private, as a team and not out in the public via the press).

What tends to be forgotten is that Lewis isn't simply an employee like most, who came to McLaren from another team, just to do a job: Clock in, serve your shift, clock out, go home. Lewis has been brought up and nurtured by McLaren, and they have had a massive influence on his life (almost like a 3rd parent). It could easily be argued that they could have done more to guide him when it comes to dealing with matters out of the car, like who are the sort of people he should have around him, but that leads to the dilemma of just how intrusive should the team be? How much say should they have in what he does out of the car?
With the likes of Button, Alonso, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen etc., etc., they were merely employee's, but Hamilton is more like family, which makes things a little bit more complicated.

Basically what we have here with the tweet situation is the equivalent of the family son coming home having crashed the car! (again!) - It's annoying, but is it really worthy of kicking him out of the house?

So you think we're all racists and sexists? Wow! - that's bang out of order! - I can't believe you even went down that road! :(

It's got nothing to do with the colour of Lewis' skin, it's about his attitude and how he goes about dealing with things. If Lewis was green with yellow spots he'd still annoy Me with some of his antics when out of the car!

As with a lot of celebrities and stars, he lets himself down by being petulant and childish at times and doesn't seem to consider the consequences of his actions. Inside the car he's the consummate professional, but outside the car, at times, he's quite unprofessional - which is a surprise considering his McLaren assisted up bringing! (it's almost like he's still a rebellious teenager at times!)

As for Danica (not sure why you felt the need to bring her into this, apart from to use a second brush to Tar us with!), I like her and admire what she's done with her career. Whilst she's by no means the greatest driver to have ever lived (and I don't recall her claiming to be), I think she's done pretty well considering the prejudice that she's most likely encountered over the years.
At least she's shown other girls that it is possible to get on in what is considered a "man's World", if it's what you really want.

Sorry dude, read what I was responding to. I think the poster (Nachtfalter) should clarify what he meant by "Danica Hamilton". The only commonality I can conjure up is that both are "firsts" in their profession. He's a WDC, she's not.

All I asked for was a clarification of what he meant. I haven't accused anyone of anything. In fairness, I should not have used generalized language lumping everyone to have the same issue as him (i.e. using "you guys" when analyzing his statement). As with everything in life, people have their own reasons to act and believe certain things.

And there you have it. Note that I did NOT call anyone a "racist", I only referred to the tangible common thread between the two, that they are "firsts" in their respective sports. Her first is based on sex, his is based on ethnicity. And the question I asked is 'do you believe both receive undeserved accolades due to their' historic statuses. I think that's a fair question given the lack of any other common strings.

I don't know if essentially calling him a "girl" makes it any better, but I think you answered the question pretty cleanly.

People are WAAAYYYY too over-sensitive on anything related to race...I'm not looking to make anyone an internet pariah.

I was wondering why my phone was bloweing up with the Hamilton thread.

Loved the Kimi responses though. I agree Kimi dances to his own beat without coming out like ******. Hamilton is a great driver but he acts likes a baby. He just needs to mature a little.
