http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/071022212558.shtml Now if only his team would also show some class and withdraw the appeal.
The respect-o-meter on Hamilton has gone from Total Disgrace to Standable. He gets mad props for doing this.
+1 Nice to see that he stays above his team's level. So Ron wasn't able to completely spoil him, that's great btw, quote Hamilton: "...to have it taken away is a bit cruel and probably not good for the sport" - 'probably', right. How I love the Brits btw 2: "McLaren Chief Executive Martin Whitmarsh said on Monday that the decision to appeal was made in deference to the hypothetical criticism of 'fans and Formula One insiders.'" Err, yes. We've all sat in front of our computers drooling in the prospect of seeing MCL mess up the championship with some dodgy moves. Whatever Whitmarsh takes - he should either stop or let us try it, seems to be pretty good stuff.
Good for Lewis, anyone with a shread of dignity would feel the same way. His day will come no doubt. McClaren need to drop it as it is only making them look more foolish.
The chances of the overturning of the decision and then the thunderous punishment are soo tiny that he played the only card he had left, concede. If he went through with the appeal, he would have lost even more ground with the fans and media, that's his concern, not "letting" Kimi have the title. If there was a chance that he could strip the title away from Kimi, he would, any driver would. Don't be bind guys, what else was he going to do?
I'm proud of him for saying that. I know he is a rookie and is young so I expect him to say some stupid things here and there. I think it shows who he really is for saying that. If it was Alonshole in Hamiltons position he would just say he wanted the title...
Florian I'am sure there is but some folks will never cut him any slack. And to be honest I'am just sick of it. Great chatting peace..
The only thing "blind" is your hatred for Hamilton. I'm amazed at how you manage to try and spin everything he says and does into something negative. The team management is grasping at straws by appealing against Kimi's title. That shows no class and Lewis wants to distance himself from it. He's not trying to pull a fast one as you suggest.
When have I ever said I hate Lewis? I said he's a great breath of fresh air for F1, I've also said he will rack up WDC's and he brings more viewers. I also thought he had the WDC in the bag. I say he got out in front of the media to try and "lighten his image", you say he did the "honorable thing", how can you blast me? You have no proof of what you say either at least my statement is based in logic and a political mindset which is what was needed in this situation. "Hoping, well wishing, praying, willing, crossing your fingers, fantasizing" and whatever other candy you want to use to suggest Lewis is somehow "gifting" the championship to Kimi is silly. If there was a ghost of a chance that Lewis could fight for the win even by appeal he would have. No driver or team will fight all year, spend hundreds of millions of dollars and in the end "give" the title away, this isn't a group of 8 years olds playing t-ball nearing sundown, this is a Massive business and heads roll when teams lose races, imagine the state of McLaren going into that last race. They had nearly the world on a string and somehow lost it, couple that with the penalties and fines they racked up this year and you get a team that NEEDS something, anything! Lewis and his popularity took a massive blow with the BS that happened after the first few races, everyone said the "honeymoon is over" and "Lewis is as gritty as everyone else in the paddock". Face it, he ain't Tiger Woods like any more. He might still be a very great, young and talented driver but the romance is long over with everything he's been a part of this year. Simply put "The shine has come off this chandelier"
I was jumping up and down and wanting Kimi to take this title that has eluded him for so long watching this GP. I cannot think of a more worthy winner, however, there was a bit of a sadness for Hamilton. Alonso no way, but Hamilton to me comes off as a good kid, and has been great to watch all year. He made errors in the last two races that cost him the championship, and I am happy for Kimi and Ferrari, but a bit sad for the kid. His time will come, and personally I think he mean't what he said about the Appeal, just my 2 cents.
Yeah yeah he's not a monster but he's no choir boy either, with everything that he did and said "off the track" he dropped his cover and like the media and teams said from there on out, he's one of us now. His charm has lost some luster and he needs to be aware of that.
Well Said Although I screamed from the top of my lungs in joy after he went off on the first lap ,I totally agree with what you said.
His ego and inexperience cost him the title. As far as I'm concerned, McLaren appealing the ruling and Lewis' subsequent comments are nothing but publicity good-cop/bad cop. If making Lewis look good means McLaren takes one in the shorts, then Ron's will drop like a whore's drawers. If this were legit, Lewis' father would have told Ron that Lewis did not want to win it this way.
Yeah. Because the first thing out of Alonso's mouth was to Congratulate Kimi, and repeatedly said he felt the driver who won the most races/points deserves the championship. Alonso > Hamiltwat, any day.
I call BS on Hamilton's statement and I am not drinking his kool-aid. I didn't hear he said anything about his illegal car that he almost won the championship with it. the guy (and his father) is a snake.
+100 Steve. It's amazing the stuff people will convince themselves of in order to justify hating the kid. I think the Lewis knows that he fumbled the championship away and doesn't want any part of backing into it. He was stand-up enough to admit he accidentally put the car into 'start' mode, causing it to drop into neutral for 30 secs. The media already concluded he simply had bad luck with his gearbox. He's a great young driver who had a magical ride until the last two races, where his inexperience/immaturity got the better of him. But at least he's culpable and shoulders all of the blame for his misfortune instead of owing his loss to 'bad luck' or the team's shortcomings. I'm certain he will learn from his mistakes and only get stronger. I jumped for joy when Kimi won the WDC, but part of me felt for Lewis also. I look forward to seeing him compete for titles, with a bright future ahead. I don't care if he is Scuderia or competitor, he will be one of the key players in F1.
I think LH had a once in a lifetime season for a rookie. He came out of no where and drove perfectly for most of the races this year. He is the biggest surprise of the season. He may be the Tiger Woods of F1. I do feel he let it slip out of his hands but Kimi did deserve the title.
