I can't believe Nico is leading this. Must have something to do with the world cup.

It's bad enough they won the World Cup. If they win F1 on top of that, I don't even want to think about.

From Autosprint seems Mercedes has announced there won't be anymore differences in the number of pit stops the 2 drivers will follow from a strategy point. Just tyre compounds, but the strategy will be the same for both and will not be allowed to change mid race to avoid favouritism.

That seems dumb. Strategies need to be flexible to respond to the demands of the race.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Story...take it as you will...I don't see how/why you regulate pit strategies. They can't base decisions on perception of favoritism, can they?

Mercedes will restrict the race strategies that can be adopted by its drivers as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg fight for the 2014 title.

Until now, the dominant team has given its driver duo almost free rein to battle for the championship, despite constant speculation that Mercedes and its parent Daimler might prefer to see German Rosberg ultimately triumph.

Italy's Autosprint now reports that one of the ways Mercedes is moving to demonstrate absolute equality between the pair is to limit them to very similar pit strategies.

"The drivers must comply with the same number of pitstops," said correspondent Alberto Antonini.

That aside, the Hamilton and Rosberg camps will be free to wage their battles, even at the risk of some loss of 'transparency' as outlined by boss Toto Wolff recently.

"As an individual, you cannot dominate alone in motor racing," Wolff is quoted by Speed Week. "Our position is a testament to how well we work together.

"But of course there are areas where you keep certain details to yourself to develop an advantage, and this is also accepted by the team.

"But it must not have a negative influence on the development of the team," he insisted.

In that MB seems to be the only team contending for the titles an open competition between their two drivers is our best hope for an interesting season. Any restriction on that would be a loss.

Merc has been altering every weekend between drivers to choose when they stop. Silverstone was one of the first weekends this season when they did a split strategy (there was talk of a 2 stop and a 1 stop race, but they wouldn't tell us who).

I think from now they'll decide on a pit strategy (subject to change during race to allow for circumstances) and the driver whose ''turn it is'' pits first (or later, whatever he decides). So the strategy can evolve but they'll still have to pit within lap X of each other as decided before the race.

+1000. I know it's difficult to manage, but the Ham/Ros battle is the only real intrigue this year. Any attempts to manufacture/control the results will diminish what little we have to go on. Desi has been a great story, Seb's struggles have certainly been news and it's good to see Williams F1's resurrection. However, the big story has been the battle at the front of the grid.

With Rosberg renewing, do you think Ham will be feeling the pressure even a touch more? Is it going to be a Vettel/Webber story all over again?

I personally think Ham will eventually go back to McLaren/Honda and said so as soon as he formerly left.

Driver who has track position gets to pit first? Just an exception was made in Austria for
Hamilton because he had to cover one of the Williams
Or something? Can't remember the reason but it made sense

I hope the last race (double points) doesn't decide the championship in a way that would be contrary to a standard points finish. It's so close, that I worry about that.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I worry that Lewis could be upto 40 points ahead have a DNF and lose the WDC
That would be a huge tragedy and a massive turnoff for fans
