Recently going from the Madrid airport to downtown, I had a pick-pocket attempt on the Metro. Grabbed the guy and smashed him into the tunnel wall. The place is rife with pick-pockets. Only place you see a cop is at traffic intersections or in front of government buildings. Pretty soon tourism will drop when everyone figures out Spain is a thieves den.
