Hamilton's points in his first year at Mercedes will in comparison be?

  1. Less than Schumacher’s 75

  2. On par with Schumacher’s 75

  3. Exceed Schumacher’s 75 a little 76-100

  4. Far Exceed Schumacher’s 75 at 100+

Schumacher from 2010 and 2011 and little short of pace for 2012 gains about 75 points a year. Hamilton's points in his first year at Mercedes will in comparison be?

Pointless comparison, we don't know how good the car will be. It could be like the RB7 or it could be worse than the current car, we don't know.

    Voted far exceed though.

if we knew all the results before the season started we would be rich! no reason to make guesses on a poll then. We know Mercedes was an improved team this past year, plenty of budget, plenty of talent throughout, and we know results of individual drivers.

+1 a totally pointless discussion. Something more relevant would be comparing Nico to Lewis. We get to find out just how good Nico really is or is not.

Agreed - and I bet Nico will suddenly look ordinary compared to Lewis.

You know I've been thinking about that. Although I'm a Nico fan through and through, I'm not so blind to think Mercurial isn't ultimately quicker. However.... from what I've seen, Lewis lacks an ability to politic. Nico has been schooled by the best and if he hasn't learned anything from Shoe or good old Dad, I'd be surprised. He's made good friends at Mercedes for the past few years I'd bet and I'd suspect there are many willing to give him a myriad of info and news they won't want to share with the Brand.

I think he'll exceed Schumacher's total, but not by as much as he thought he would! ;)

    Another interesting question would be:

Who'll score more points in 2013? - Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes or Sergio Perez in the McLaren?

    Another very astute observation.

I think Brawn will be joined at the hip with Lewis, but it will be interesting to see if any "support" issues develop within the team. That said, I think Mercedes is hitching the AMG/Petronas team to the Hamilton wagon as its future, so I can't see there being too many shenanigans. Their F1 team "brand" is now revolves around the success of Lewis (much like Ferrari's revolves currently around Fernando)

Regarding the poll, I believe he will exceed Schu's points total, but hard to really know without seeing the car. Brawn himself seems to be pointing more towards 2014 as a payoff year, with 2013 being an evolutionary one (of course, that all means nothing right now)

Given Schumachers age and bad luck (if you like him) / brain fades (if you don't) and Hamilton's talent, I'm certain he will outscore him. By which margin will be determined by the car.

To say: "and bad luck (if you like him) / brain fades (if you don't)", is a tad unfair to say the least!

if you compare the number of "brain fade" incidents (accidents he's caused, running people off the road etc., etc.), to the number of "bad luck" incidents (mechanical failures, getting tagged by other drivers through no fault of his own, etc., etc.), I'm pretty sure you'll find that the latter outnumbers the former by quite a margin.

As I posted earlier, Hamilton will score more than Schumacher did, but he won't score as much as he thought he would!

Hami is the better driver at this point (as in right now) so he will do better than MS.

However it all depends on the car.

A more interesting comparison will be how Hami will perform in regards to Nico. I think he'll blow him away, but I could be wrong. The same thing was said when MS joined and it didn't happen.

Another thought for poor Nico - he was commenting in Singapore that the team would have to rethink the car numbering, where they let Schumacher have the lower number 7 even though Nico outscored him in 2011 and would normally have been assigned the lower number. Schumacher allegedly preferred his car to have an odd number, so Nico humoured him and accepted #8, but it bit him in Singapore where neither driver set a time in Q3 and so their grid order was determined by their car number, and Schumacher gridded ahead of Nico.

Now it won't matter, since Hamilton will be bringing along many more 2012 points than Nico, so Hamilton will get the lower numbered car and Nico will be stuck with the higher number anyway! :D
