Happy Birthday Clay. Here's Niki giving good wishes from another era . . Image Unavailable, Please Login
He was actually a lot better looking and charming than the actor who portrayed him in the Lauda/Hunt movie (which I otherwise loved). Rega, the indestructible. Until he hit a parked car in his Ensign at Long Beach during the race. I was awake (in Europe) watching that race live as a kid. Watching that accident shocked me to no end. When my parents came home (yeah, no baby sitters in Europe) I was in total shock trying to explain to them what I just witnessed. Poor Rega was paralyzed after that. Still he made a comeback and even drove the Paris-Dakar (the real one) in a truck. What a man!
Met him once, got his autograph. Still a prized posession in my collection. Rega in the FW07 winning Silverstone for Williams was the moment I got totally hooked on F1. 1979 when Jones didn't have a chance at the title because of the silly rule of two half seasons points counting together. Anyway, water under the bridge now. Thanks for the memories pilotoCS.
