In 1975 I had a beer standing next to him at the Tip Top the night before the Monaco GP. He was three sheets to the wind.

Ironically, the Hesketh 308C in the photo turned out to be a bust the following year as the Williams FW05.

His mistake was using his own wealth to run the team, instead of actively looking for sponsors.
Watching his fortune shrinking, Lord Hesketh had to call it a day after a few years.
James Hunt was let go and the cars were rented to different private teams: Hesketh Racing was no more.
Hesketh made the same mistake when his launched his motorcycle company, that soon collapsed.
That proved that Lord Hesketh was an enthusiast, but not a businessman.
