It's 2010 and the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Golden Age of sports cars! Jaguar E-Types, TR4s, MGBs, 911s, ... and later in the decade the Dino!

I was going through my files and found this photo I took of the Dino being photographed for a Shell calendar some 2 years ago. I always liked the front of the Dino and thought this photo showed that angle well. Indeed the most beautiful Ferrari (or non-Ferrari) ever.

    My best to all.

    Thanks, Coop.

I found my Dino on the 3rd page of a Google search after many months. The car was in New York, from where I had just returned. I could not fly back to see it, so did my best to satisfy myself through the telephone and email, thousands of miles away across the Pacific. I asked if there was any rust, and the vendor said "The word does NOT exist!" I wondered if the car existed at all.

So, taking a leap of faith, I went against all sensible rules and wired a check.

4 years ago to the day (Dec.3), the car arrived on a flatbed truck from the port. My first time to see it. It exists!

That's me with the spindly legs and full head of hair, still dumbfounded that the car was there at all.

Our 4th annivesary! I think I'll take her out for a spin.

Andy, my second Dino (03964) arrived at my house 27 years ago this month. It left FAF in Atlanta during an ice storm, and I had to scrape my driveway with a snow shovel to get rid off surface ice before the truck arrived. It was the same color as yours, with the Campagnolo rims. That picture of the Dino coming off the truck brings back memories. My car was shipped in an enclosed trailer, and when they started it up to drive it out, with the engine and exhaust noise reverberating off the trailer's walls, it sounded like a banshee! Happy New Year and happy anniversary! Fred

Thank you, Fred. I had told the dealer to make sure the car didn't arrive during the holidays, as customs and banks would be closed. Of course, it arrived in the country on Christmas Day. I should say, to the dealer's credit, that purchase and export went smoothly. It was a great New Year present for me, and we did not have snow and ice to contend with.

My 1972 GT is #4866, just a few units older than your GT #4808. They were probably together in the assembly line, on the same boat to the US, and on the US importer's (Algar's?) lot!

    My best,

    Andy

Andy, Assuming that VINs have any meaning at Ferrari (or rather, did in the old days, when sequences of numbers were sometimes honored in the breach), my Dino was 29 cars ahead of yours, which I think may have been about a week's production. They very likely headed out on the same boat. Since my car also came from Algar, they were also probably stablemates awaiting "adoption." My car was delivered to the first owner through Bobcor, which was then an Alfa dealer in NJ and Buffalo, NY, and delivered Ferraris for Algar on occasion. 04808 was not registered until April,1974, having been assembled in Oct. '72, with a delayed arrival at the dealer sometime in '73. The first owner bought it in the fall of '73, but deferred delivery until April of '74. I bought it in May of '76. It's wonderful after all these years to be in communication with a fellow Dino lover, with an almost identical Dino, half way around the world. Happy motoring in 2010, Andy! You have a beautiful Dino, and I never tire of hearing about it or seeing photos. Fred p.s.:Andy, is your car Blu Sera, or a lighter blue? Sera can be deceiving in different lighting. f
