I am looking for a 91 to 93 348 GTB/GTS or TB/TS. Preferably a Serie Speciale. Does not have to be an SS. It seems I have run out of places to look. Any suggestions. All help and comments welcome.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Matt...

First of all, don't limit yourself from looking at a 89 or 90. I know that they've gotten a bad rap, but I think you could reasonably expect that any 348 still running has had the early problems sorted out. As long as you have the 2.7 ECU you should be fine.

Since you're in PA, you might take a look at this one...

    http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=ascending&sortfield=PRICE+ascending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_51_%7CD-_1406_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+ascending%7CQ-ascending%7CZ-79121&aff=national&paId=154666736&recnum=3&leadExists=true&sellerFirst=true

That said, there DOES seem to be a particular shortage of 348's right now. I've been looking for a yellow one to possibly trade my red one for. Of course, the 348's are out there, but it seems that the prices are quite high compared to a year ago.

It seems like the market on the 348 is quite firm right now, to the extent that you may well want to consider a 355. I would be interested in hearing other F-chatter's observations.

If you are willing to travel, there is a good supply. Get the Ferrari Market Letter for a start. Try Traderonline.com or cars.com among others. I know there is a black 91 for sale locally (Colorado).

Only problem is...most of these cars are "for sale", but the owner doesn't really want to sell, if you know what I mean. I suppose all of our 348's are "for sale" for the right price. Heck, if I can fetch $60K for mine, it would be on "Ferraribuy.com", too!

Its a funny old game and in some ways the enthusiast owners are their own worst enemy. Some time back I got fed up to the back teeth of reading about 348's being the ones to side step, particularly early ones, too unreliable blah blah. The truth of it now seems to be that the much lamented 355 suffers equal if not more problems, again particularly the early ones. So little changed there and if you take a balanced view it would seem pound for pound ($ for $) the 348 is probably the best buy if you get a well looked after one. This is before you weigh into the consideration the more 'engaging' drive the 348 will force you into experiencing (jeez I'll never forget that first test drive, damn near scared the **** out of me!).

I think the 348 had a rough ride on criticism since release and at last its now pulling up square against other more celebrated models. I used to be of the opinion I would chop my 348TS in against a 355 as soon as funds allowed, whereas now the more I read on this site the more I'm swaying to sticking with the 348 or to get an even better one, like a challenge or Speciale.

Now we just need Ferrari to get real with spare parts prices for a car thats been out of production for 10 years! Get an alternative rear end conversion sorted and I need to get me a set of 355 wheels for the beast (I personally never warmed to those standard 348 wheels or the grated rear end!)

I fully agree with you about the wheels. I finally found the wheels I want but I will unveil those on another thread once purchased. The strakes on the back have grown on me though....I was originally thinking that i was going to replace them with the F355 look, but I kinda like them now. Its a very "not ferrari" look that only is present in this car and the Testarossas (which is definitely a celebrated car). I think in years to come, the strakes will be more and more appealing because of their 'retro' and 'diferrent' look. The cheese grater sides have always been my fav part of the 348 and testarossa's...those are unmistakeably Ferrari. I'm not the purist type at all, I just dropped a 15 solobaric kicker into my front trunk with a box that I custom built myself (I'm sure that comment will raise a couple of eyebrows). I would look at buying one from Martin...I don't know him but I do watch prices and his prices are very good, and everyone on this forum seems to like the way he does business.
