Would a 430 coupe with 6 speed transmission and a color combination of Grigio Silverstone/Bordeaux Leather take a beating at resale? All else being equal, would this setup be something like $10,000 less than a comparably equipped 2008 Red-Beige combination? Finally, how hard would it be to sell 2 years from now? Thank you for your opinions.
Not sure of actual dollar figures but that combination seems to be fairly popular. There shouldn't be any issue selling the car later on.
That really depends on your expectation to depreciation. If you price it low it should sell, but if you are too optimistic on its value you may have it for a while... For what it is worth, it is my favorit color combo with my favorit transmission (assuming you mean manual by "6 spd" - technically all manuals and F1s are 6 speed). Jes
I have heard from someone who deals with exotics that red interiors are not as popular as they were say ten years ago. But price cures everything. If they are 10K less now, then it will likely be 10K less 2 years from now. Buy it if you like it. Dave
Do you think manual 6 speed is more difficult to sell than F1? Not sure if 6 speed manual would have as much demand although I guess one could view it as not as many available which could make it more in demand?
In Oz the F1 is the one sort after...no question about that! I'd also go only the "Ferrari red" as it is so arch typical that is is not funny. I've lost count on how many people I have come across not known to me that say "has to be red doesn't it?" Rob.
Silverstone/Bordeaux was popular early in the F430's production...I think it was mainly attributed to several press photos showing off a beautiful Spider in that color combo but today you'll really have to find the right buyer for a car like that...the 6spd m/t is a plus IMO.
That combo would be a bit of a white elephant. Don't do it unless you really like it and not too concerned about depreciation.
Where were you a year ago, that was the color combo I was looking for and 6spd! Ughhhh I ended up with a Scud Red/Nero 6spd,

From what I have generally seen, it appears that the 6-speed manual is selling for about $5,000 less than the F1 transmission. There will always be a small group who will prefer the manual, though I would hope price has little to do with it. The feared expensive repairs on the F1 might however! Then you have the whole Resale Red phenomenon, perhaps driven by first time Ferrari buyers and the sheer dominance of this color in the marketplace, and the effect it seems to have on sale price of maybe another 3,000-5,000 when you go to sell something other than red. Add to this an interior color, bordeaux, that is not universally appreciated, and I think you have what adds up to "the right car for the right buyer" situation. I guess the bottom line is that if it is priced right when you buy it, you won't really get too hurt when you sell it. Of course, you may be waiting awhile for the right buyer to show up- it won't be a quick sale.
Definitely no, in fact anything with 6spd will be super easy to sale. I personally would gladly pay additional $10~20k for a 6spd equipped F430 over F1. It is almost impossible to find a 6spd F430.
That was helpful, no? As you can see, opinions vary widely. I think that is a very attractive combination personally, and would not hesitate if I were in the market. As a matter of fact, condition should count more than color for a buyer. Seems to be a difference between the V12 and V8 buyers, however. Taz Terry Phillips
Rosso will always sell at a premium to Grigio. That pricing thread that came out earlier this year pegged the premium at $10k on a 360, likely more on a 430....
I think GS/Bordeaux is a beautiful, classy color combination, especially for an F430. There are likely very few manual F430 coupes featuring that color combination. The subtle shades really compliment the 430's styling, IMO...e.g. silverstone, tdf, mirabeau, titanium, etc. I also think the oval front air intakes look better when set against a medium-to-dark exterior color. I like rosso corsa/scuderia as much as the next guy (and fly yellow, too), but I don't think the standard F430 looks its best in red. It's certainly not unattractive in red, I just think other colors better suite its shape/lines. Conversely, I think the 360/CS look beautiful in red. I also like the Scuderia in red or yellow. Ultimately, if you like it, that's what matters. With regards to resale, I don't think it will do poorly - it's not some bastard color combination that you'll never sell - it just may take a little longer. Then again, in a sea of red cars for sale, it may even sell quickly - you never know. Good luck whatever you decide.
