looking for some advice on removal of the harmonic balancer. I have a 3 arm puller fully wound with maximum load on the center bolt on the crank pulley and it wont budge. Anyone had a similar experience at all I cannot believe it is on the crank nose that tight. Am I missing something
Mitchell Yeah that rattled right off with my rattle gun I have ceased trying with my puller as I fear it will stuff the rubber insert. Common sense tells me I need to exert "pull" on the solid inner of the pulley as I can feel the rubber insert about 1/2 inch out from the center of the hub From a bit of homework I am not Robinson Crusoe either. In the write up by Carl from 928 it says "just" slide it off....I wish
I fear reprisal but will confess. I am removing the harmonic to have the pulley turned up for the 928 supercharger kit and need to get my harmonic dowelled. Engine is in the car its a 84 model and it has done 45000 miles and I cannot budge the pulley
So, that Rubber Harmonic Thingie is 30 years old...? I have one that's 32 years old, extra for sale. Doubt if it is any good at Harmonic Balancing,,, just like yours. Torch it off. Ferrari removed all Harmonic Balancers from their V8 motors in like, 1989..? The oil pump does a fine job of dampening,, and, the V8s are internally balanced. My 1982 2V motor is Running a 3# Aluminum Pulley,, sans Dampener. For, My motor has had the rotating assembly Balanced, and, I have a custom Steel flywheel. Good luck. Edwardo
