    Dear Friends,

I received a reply to an e-mail I sent Harold T.C. Angel a few days ago from his wife Carolyn. Harold T.C. Angel passed away on November 23, 2009. I was very shocked and saddened. He was close friends with Enzo Ferrari and his family and he will surely be missed by many friends and family. We exchanged many emails over the past few years and I was looking forward to meeting this great man, unfortunately I will never get the chance......

There is an Italian story that Enzo sits in heaven and tells God who to let in. If this is the case we know Harold is up there and with his fellow tifosi..... awaiting the rest of us.

    Rob

I know many of you original Ferrari guys must have known him, please share some stories with the rest of us about Harold and his life.

Thanks for the report; I had not heard. When I was avidly collecting Ferrari literature (at one time I had almost everything in Merritt) I was in regular contact with Harold, as he had stuff that NO-ONE had even heard of. As noted, this was a result of his Factory contacts, which he assiduously maintained and nurtured. We are all passionate about our interest in things Ferrari, but he was in a class by himself. Best to his family.

I only met him once, so I am probably not the best guy to answer your question.

While never actually owning a Ferrari, he was extremely well connected and seemed to be the absolute king of memorabilia; as Ed said above, he had stuff that no one else had ever even heard of.

He was pretty low profile about his hobby, to my knowledge never advertising, but occasionally making an appearance at memorabilia shows, which is where I met him in 1987 or 08.

It was an education meeting and talking to him.

    Dear Friends,

He shared information with me which, I would be hesitant to share with the public. His knowledge of Ferrari was amazing and his stories fantastic. I told him Enzo Ferrari sent me an autographed photo and had tried to get one of Piero to hang next to the one his father sent me so graciously many years ago. A few days later a package arrived with an autographed picture of Piero.... He was also friends with at least one of the Wright Brothers and was Assistant AG of Ohio. A picture he had commissioned hung in Enzo Ferrari's bedroom....

I never met him personally but we struck up a very good online relationship, and I so wanted to meet him. Here is one of his stories which I dont think he would have minded me sharing!

"On one of my trips to Maranello the factory honored me with a luncheon and also had several Ferrari engineers (who spoke English, cause my Italian is sparse) to answer my many questions. ALSO invited so I could talk to him was Dino Ferraris roommate at College who sat next to me. He asked "What Ferrari do you own, Mr. Angel?" Quickly Dr Franco Gozzi, host on behalf of Enzo Ferrari said "A true friend can never be a client and besides there are a lot of clients that Eng. Ferrari doesn't care for". That is just one other thing I will never forget."

Like Ed N. he is another person I would have gladly traded lives with!!! I am just glad to have rubbed e-mails if not elbow with the likes of him and Ed.....

I never met H T C Angel in person but we talked on the phone many times and lots of letters went back and forth. He had an insiders knowledge about Ferrari. The mechanics would complain to him about the poor pay...
It was always a good day when a package arrived from Mr Angel. Sometimes for an occasion like Christmas the factory would send him an F1 piston mounted on a display or simply a personal card. For all the print literature Mr Angel would have a standing order for each Ferrari Publication Number item when the factory issued it. Didn't matter what car it was for he always got each new print number item. He also like art work and had some very nice paintings in his collection. He also collected business cards for all the famous factory people of the 'Ferrari family'.
In the old days before computers Mr Angel had some good contacts like Richard Veen who worked the big European car shows. He could then provide more of the coveted Ferrari press kits that were so difficult to obtain back then. Mr Angel was a great source for Ferrari literature and knowledge which he generously shared for many years.
Dayton won't be the same without old HTC.

Here is a picture from the early 90's of Harold Angel and his wife Carolyn. The Ferrari theme shared a prominent place in their home. Very nice Dion Pears painting on the mantle.

Harold Angel liked to commission art works. The picture shown below is one example.
Titled "The Start of it All" - Franco Cortese 11 May 1947 Circuido di Piacenza, Italy. Ferrari's First Race. HTC can be seen standing on the far right side of the picture.
