Too bad, now just Gene Wilder, Alex Karras, and Mel Brooks remain as major characters from the funniest movie ever made.
"Count de Money! Count de Money! --- It's DE MO-NET you idiot!" and "Don't get saucy with me Bernaise!" haha He was one of the greats.
Though not "major" - a few of the townsfolk are still around - a Johnson here and an Olson there, lots of scenes, but, they didn't have that X factor goin' on. Some bit parts are worthy of mention, though. Thanks to beans for the scene and the title of Blazing Saddles, Burton Gilliam will live on forever as being the first person to ever *fart* on uh, screen. Oh, man. And of course, Dom DeLuise taught 'em how to "put your hands on your hips, stick out your tush"... he and Harvey were in lots of Mel Brooks flicks workin' their own magic... Were Harvey not in any Mel Brooks film, though - what he did on the Carol Burnett Show was his, and his alone. Week after week, he really shined.
Most folks under the age of 30 don't understand 'real' comedy such as what these folks produced... My 19 y/o SD - thinks SNL today is GREAT, and I plug in a CD of SNL clips from 1975-77, and she just doesn't 'get it' at all. Carol Burnett show was great, so was Laugh-In...
It's so sad to hear this. The funny thing is that I just watched Blazing Saddles tonight on HDTV network. Badges? We don't need no stinkin badges!!!
Sad to hear. I played a round of golf with him a few years ago. Blazing Saddles is the best movie ever.
