I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig on this one. There's probably little risk associated with it, but hooking it up to a switched power from the head unit is not that hard either. Or a fuse tap to something that's not critical.

I went with the switched power from the head unit. I tried to wire it to the airbag light in the overhead console/dome light area and all I got was an airbag light on the dash and some weird behavior with the detector not powering on. Thinking there is a difference between my ‘08 and previous years with that wiring.

Pretty easy to get the wiring across the headliner and down the a-pillar.

The OBD port is powered by a 10 amp fuse (live battery power, not switched). Note that there are other devices attached to that fuse (TPMS and eDiff)

Would you be turning off the detector (if possible) at the end of a trip?

I'm not sure what the power outputs of that Savvy device are.

Do you mean you tried to wire your radar detector into the Airbag warning light (supply) or just the detector warning light? The warning light has 4 contacts. How did you figure out how to wire it up?

    Airbag warning light supply.

I was following some previous posts here. Following those instructions got me nowhere. The wiring matched, but the radar detector did not turn on. Ended up with the airbag light on on the dash. Ended up wiring it to switched power for the radio.

How did you tap into the switched power? Did you create a new harness, add pins to the existing harness or just tap the wires?

Thanks. I'd imagine you'd wire it up in parallel with pins 2 and 3, but the earth and power wires look quite small. Not your usual 0.5m^2 size.

I guess the Airbag ECU picked up a change in resistance in the circuit.

I have an aftermarket head unit in the car, so I just spliced into the 12v switched power wire using a solder connector. Didn’t take a picture of it or I’d post it.

Instructions I found were the orange wire was 12v switched power and black was ground. Didn’t work for me.

The orange/white wire will be a signal wire from the Airbag ECU to turn on the light when the disable key is used. It's not ignition key power. The signal wire could even be a ground. You'd have to know the internal circuitry.
