Hi all - so I'm the typical child of the 80s who had the Countach on his wall, and I now find myself fortunate enough to consider buying one.

Starting my search, I quickly run into a dilemma - I adore the early clean, un-festooned cars, but they are 1) 1/2 million dollars, and 2) never for sale anyway. The early 80s style are still great, but also hard to find and maybe not as well sorted as the late cars.

Seems the only cars ever for sale, AND the cheapest, AND the best sorted/etc, are the "anniversary" types which, ummm..., are not my cup of tea style-wise.

So my question - has anyone "cleaned up" a late Countach, removed all the tack-on stuff, make it look like the early style, or at least a decent replica of it? TIA!

Firstly, I would wait until you get the style you want. A 2 V carbed car is not more than a Anniversary unless it is very nice, at least here in Canada.

Secondly, you would be raping and ruining the work of Horacio Pagani by modifying the Anniversario like you suggest. Don't do it.
    Good luck with your search.

Thank you guys - the '87 seems to have all the TR-type side strakes & fender bulges, etc. I was hoping it might be a simple matter to just remove some body cladding & refinish, but seems nope, doesn't work that way. Guess I will focus my search to the 78-86 range - thanks again!

Denuding an Annie would never look right. They've got unique front wings (fenders, not spats) that are deeper than highbody wings, to eliminate the front wheel gap. They've got a gaping hole behind the doors where H. Pagani added the strakes where the 'ears' used to be. The Annie bumper cuts into the underside of the tail.

Yes, you could fill in the holes and replace the front clip and get rid of the skirts and spats, but you'd still have a highbody car and a naked highbody will never look like an LP400.

A highbody (81 and up) won't look like an LP400 when stripped either.

You need to check out this post: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142438334-post17478.html

The Countach before 1981 is one car, and the Countach after 1981 is a different car with totally different body dimensions. They might have the same chassis and engine and look mostly the same, but the highbody cars are a different shape.

Not to mention the '74-'77 Periscopa has a totally different suspension from the parallel links of the '78 LP400S and onwards.

Yes, you could turn a lowbody into a Periscopa, but they're approaching that half million dollar mark and are the rarest of all Countach.

I understand how you feel, with your chosen variant of Countach floating just outside the realm of possibility financially, believe me. I want a lowbody so bad it I ache every time someone posts their new purchase or a road trip travelog.

But that is the way the cookie crumbles, and all we can do it set the goal and move toward it.

There's no easy, cheap way into a Countach, especially the early cars.

I believe the side spats on the 87 can be changed to the earlier style, no? Possibly the fender moldings are different. This would be much easier than completely re doing a 25th car (which may or may not be possible), and you essentially end up with almost the same thing. Maybe 20-30k difference in price for equal examples, still cheaper than it would be to do a 25th right and you have a car that is not de valued.

He's not talking about going back to '78-'86 style, with the spats. He's talking about going all the way back to looking like an LP400 Periscopa.

Oh - lowbody vs highbody - I had no idea. Thought they were all the same dimensions & same "basic car". As you can see i am totally new to the CT world and am learning a lot already. Thanks again...

The best thing you can do it start at the beginning of the Countch thread and read the whole thing. You will not find a better source for general Countach information anywhere, and the photos are fantastic.

making an LP400S looking like an LP400 is not impossible

this said it is not worth the cost....any LP400S is a rare car and withouth wing already a very clean looking car

find an S or 5000S and remove the wing if it has it: clean car, orginal
