Has anyone heard a LARINI exhaust system?

Franklin, I just wanted to say your words are not wasted. I've not only printed off your original thread on this topic, I will again print off this one when it's complete, so I get every word of advice you give so that when I want to try a louder exhaust I take the route you're suggesting.

I haven't decided yet that I want a louder car, but your suggestion will definately be the first option I try. I just am not clear yet on which mufflers exactly to get and what's involved. I have an 87 328.

Any connection to the Larini who was an Alfa touring car racer and also drove a Ferrari F1 car once or twice?

 

Gary - I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the Larini system. My Lamborghini Diablo has the Larini exhaust and bypass pipes installed and sounds unbelievable. Imagine combining the best of the Italian scream with American muscle car and you've got an idea. It is quite loud, so it may be annoying on a long trip, but the sound is sweet! It also flows well - you can stand two or three feet back from my pipes and the exhaust feels like a very strong fan.

For what it's worth, it is head and shoulders above the Tubi on my 355 and better than the Ansa system on my TR.

I have to smile - I remember taking long trips in the Mondial with a Tubi - after about an hour I'd gladly trade 10 hp for 10dB.

Although I personally loathe and detest (..with my last breath I curse at thee...) Stebro for how they treated me (YMMV), their idea of removable rear resonators is pretty useful. I opted for 4 large Ferrari Daytona sized Ansa resonated tips on the back of my Dyno-Max and the difference is truly remarkable. Since the Larinis, Quicksilvers, etc, are all custom, might want to consider.

Jeff - the tuning of the exhaust sound to me is not too different from the sound tuning of a brass musical instrument. There are some good general rules out there; would post but I'm on the road right now. Check the major American manufacturer's websites and Ferrari chat site searches.

OBTW - I did see a cut-away of a Larini silencer on their website once, and it had the chambered chevrons like an American FlowMaster. Not a bad thing at all, depending on what sound you're looking for. Certainly nothing to blow out. I think Larini is a class outfit (as most British specialists, I've found) having spoken to Larini's David Clark on occaision.
