agreed. But the problem is now that all of us fast drivers are branded as wreckless.

Also, the current word out is possibly a 1 year sentence at the most. How ****ty is that.

Very strange to watch this crash footage from last years run... Watching them avoid a head on by feet!! As organizer, "Mad Max" , follows full throttle avoiding wreckage ...

Yeah... Slap a sticker on the guard rail Max... that will make it all better...

There are many more accidents from previous events... This is a very sad thing to have happened... very sad indeed!!

    RIP

Hope Max tosses some of that $$ he generates from his DVD sales and entry/sponsor fees to the family!

I hope they go to jail for a long time

I do find it interesting that they keep showing the pic below. Anyone notice the paint scheme is different (look at the order of colours from teh window down) and note the crashed car has black wheels and the other one has stock turbo wheels

    Gumball 3000 Press Statement

Press release from Gumball 3000 more then 24 hours after the incident. We hope more drivers follow Team Polizei’s example and withdraw from the rally as that’s the only appropriate thing to do after this tragedy…

Gumball 3000 is very saddened to announce a road accident which occurred yesterday, May 2nd, involving a participating vehicle and a local vehicle in Macedonia. Exact details are still filtering through, but below are the facts as of midday May 3rd 2007 issued by the Macedonian authorities.

An adult Macedonian male aged 67 died in hospital from a heart attack following the incident where the two cars collided. The participants in the rally were held in custody last night with a preliminary court judgement expected today.

Organisers of the rally would like to express its deepest condolences to the family of the victim for this tragic accident.

Maximillion Cooper, founder of the Rally says: “It is with extreme sadness I have to make an announcement of this nature in the events nine year history.. The event is organised with each local authorities support and permission, and drivers are under strict stipulation by abide by the laws and road regulations of the country they are driving through. It is extremely sad for this unfortunate accident to have occurred. I am informed that the incident was reported immediately by the drivers. Both drivers are extremely traumatised by this occurrence.”

Thats such BS. So traumatised? Couldn't they have STAYED TO HELP? If they were that traumatised in the first place I hope they will have unlivable guilt from running.

wow, they seem to have ended gumball this year:

Issued by Maximillion Cooper on behalf of The Gumball 3000 Rally - 21.30 / 03 May 2007

Following our earlier release reporting yesterday’s accident - As a sign of respect we have decided that this year's Gumball 3000 Rally will not travel any further and will end in Bratislava this evening, May 3rd 2007.

As the organisers of the rally we feel that it should be stopped as a mark of respect to Vladimir Cepulyoski who died today after an accident involving one the participating drivers.

We are very saddened by what has happened and feel that it would be wrong to continue. On behalf of Gumball 3000, we once again extend our deepest sympathies to his family and we are doing everything we can for them.

This is the first time anything like this has happened in 9 years of travelling through over 40 countries with 1000's of drivers and it is with deep regret that I make this announcement.

Unfortunately it seems like many of the people that participate in these runs are pretty "immature" and have the do not care attitude. This event will now make all events look bad, at least in the immediate future.

im not gonna lie im a pretty immature guy...i laugh at fart jokes and what not..and i do like driving on the edge, plus ive always wanted to do a gumball (looks like i might not ever be able to because of these jerks)...i mean i think what really bothers me is that it just shows a level of arrogance on those guys parts, they thoguth they were clever little asshats trying to sneak accross the boarder...it just shows a blatant disregard for other peoples lives, that is really to say the least disgusting...its horrible to kill someone in a car accident, everyone does stupid things, and you know what if they had stood there and taken it, i would have respect for them...but they are a bunch of cowards, i hope they put them away for a long time.

one thign to be fair to the drivers (even though its pretty incriminating to be in the gumball and driving a turbo , and the fact that they ran) we dont really know if they were doing anything wrong (such as speeding or any thing of that nature)...couldve been the other drivers fault, i guess we just have to wait and see what happens

Can't be sure, but from what I read there was a 2 lane road, and the porsche crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic (legally) to pass, but hit the Volkswagen head on. So even if the move was legal, he was definitely pushing the limits of safe driving.
