Yes, I think it has a Chevy engine? There was one in Forza (I think) a while back. I think it won best of show at Concorso Italiano last year.

I have had the please of attending a couple of Concourse D'elegance's and it was great to see the Bizzarini's on two occasions. The company has a great story. The guy mentionned here has a couple of very important cars. Here are some pictures from the past shows I went to in Auburn Hills Michigan at the Dodge Estate. The 80's looking guy is a well known and important Bizzarini historian and collector.

Note in one picture the cellebration of Bizzarini's from 2004. It was truly awesome. Bizzarini was once a designer for Ferrari I believe. You can see a bit of Detomaso Ferrari and Lambo in his cars. Kinda cool.

    Enjoy...

Vasco, two of those cars in your first post are Iso's.
A Grifo and a Riviolta. Although Giotto Bizzarini was chief technician at Iso during its success years.

    Tex,

I think the original reference in this thread was to a "Bizzarrinni" being sold on eBay. It's a very rare car -- so rare I rather doubt it is going to turn up in any Giotto Bizzarini reference. Do an eBay search (I think the auction may be completed). You'll see a car like you've never seen before. One of three? I think it's more likely one of one, and one with a very, very cloudy history. It also uses a little Fiat four-cylinder engine -- also very, very rare for a Bizzarrini.

Figured you would enjoy that chuckle, my friend...lets hope this isnt another Ferrari branding episode.....the new DQ "F40" sundae, or the new "Rossa Corsa" cone dip...I hear they'll be serving those at the new Ferrari theme park. It tends to get a little hot in the middle-east at summertime :)

Check out AUTO ITALIA issue 109:

In 1954 Giotto Bizzarrini worked as an engineer for Alfa Romeo. He hit the headlines for his design work on the Ferrari 250 GTO in the late 1950s and early 1960s. After a bust-up with Enzo Ferrari, he went over to the enemy as a consultant for Ferruccio Lamborghini where he developed the 350GTV prototype. He was also much involved with Lamborghini's v12 engine. Bizzarrini's next move was to Renzo
Rivolta which saw the successful Grifo A3 road cars. From this came the A3/C. Don't think of it as a modified Iso Grifo, the differences are too great.

Bizzarrini left Rivolta when Rivolta refused to finance the racing budget. Bizzarrini took with him the rights to produce the A3/C. He built a road version, the 5300 GT Strada (5.4 Chevy V8 365bhp), and a race version, the 5300 GT Corsa. The Fiberglass Bizzarrini America 5300 GT came IRS and some with a 7-liter engine. In total, about 133 cars were built over a three-year period. Prototipi Bizzarrini Srl of Livorno traded from 1965-1969.

    James,

Further to my PM to you: Giotto Bizzarrini closed down his factory in 1969, and in 1972 was teaching at the University of Pisa. It appears that the only car with which he was involved in this period was the AMX/3 prototype for American Motors.

Bizzarrini did indeed build a series of three open racing prototypes, the P538. This designation stands for "Posteriore (engine), 5.3 liters, 8 cylinders." The first and third of these used Corvette engines, the second a four liter Lamborghini. The eBay car vaguely resembles the P538, but there are major differences, including the difference between a Corvette V8 and a four cylinder Fiat engine.

The late Griff Borgeson did an excellent story on Giotto Bizzarrini in "Automobile Quarterly" Volume 23 number 3, dated 1985. It covers Giotto's careeer and the cars he designed and built. There is no mention of a Fiat-engined car, nor of a Bizzarrini being raced in the Targa Florio in 1973.

Again, I can't say the eBay car isn't what it's claimed to be, but before I bought it as a Bizzarrini (rather than a Fiat-engine special that raced in the Targa) I'd want to see lots and lots of proof beyond a Bizzarrini badge tacked on the nose.

    O.G.
