My rear window is cracked just like everybody else’s, I have found a used one and I will attempt to replace it since I have the motor out for T-belt replacement. Any magic I need to know before hand? Instructions? R & R procedure… Anyone…

Once you get all the interior parts out of the way it is just basically glued it. There is a bit to remove it. Also watch for the defrost wire on the top and bottom center when cutting the old adhesive.

One good tip, at least it worker here was to get a recip saw and make a blade from a putty knife for it. Much easier to get the old adhesive separated.

I am sure they make that blade for window installers, just made it myself.

Great info, thanks. It looks like every time i have to do something on the TR it involves removing everything first..... I also have 2x 308's and 2x 360's much easier to work on

    FYI,

The sealant for the glass is specific for that window. make sure you get the right stuff.

The sealant is a lot stronger and stiffer than regular windshield sealant. (that is why it is so hard to remove the original stuff)

Reason is, the rear glass when installed correctly, does act a a structual member for the roof section. If you use regular windshield sealant, the roof will flex too much and the glass can break from frame contact.

Check with your local ferrari dealer for the sealant, I do not recall what it is called but will check and let you know.

Last one I did I had to use a grinder to get it all off. and do make sure you clean frame real real good before install. You should also dry-fit the new one to make sure all is good.

    Regards, Jim

I am waiting for the used glass to get here, I will document the R & R and post it. On a second thought maybe the glass is breaking because the sealant they used at the factory is so strong that the glass will flex along with the cabin causing it to break, if we use a sealant with more flexing properties then it will allow the cabin to flex with out breaking the glass… I don’t think that the glass plays any role in stiffening up the cabin structure, at list I hope it doesn’t…I whished they had used rubber seal like the 308….

I just did, and believe you, but what a nutty approach. I thought the "TR" version's stiffer frame would've included making the glass unstressed.

Anyone recommend or tried gussetting the frame near jack points to eliminate this problem?

In the Pantera world, the old frames moved a tiny bit and cracked the paint near the taillights. Kits were built to stiffen the cars up. Just wondering. Don't mean to derail the advice sought by the OP, but I'm he too would want to include a preventive.

It is strange, but the glass is concidered part of the roof structure.

That is why the original sealant is so hard to remove.

To use a softer sealant to allow the glass to float I think would cause problems. possible for the glass to crack from the extra movement of the roof and may affect handling.

Back to the drawing board…… the guys who I got the glass from managed to crack it when trying to remove it (at no suprise)!!! Did anybody try the lexan rear window from Ferr Parts Inc ? How does it look? Does it fit right? Does it scratch easily? Thoughts?

When you said you were getting a used glass, I know they do not come out without breaking...
