I recently trading in the 430 for a 599...wow, hell of a car...Last night I tried to test the limits of my new ride and couldn't get it past 195mph...the book says the car does 205...when I hit 185 i felt a strange stall, almost like the red line tug you hit on lower gears when you approach the limit...

If anyone out there has pushed their car please let me know if you have breached the 200 mph threshold

haha I love it .. the book says it can so you've gotta test it .. well that's what it's made for right?

I know I was tempted to test the limits in my F430 but at 290kmh (181mph) I chickened out & decided that was quick enough for me. Please let us know if/when you breach the magical 200mph mark. Oh and of course I'm sure you're attempting this in a controlled and legal environment :D

Good luck in quest .. and be safe!

    controlled yes, legal no...
I never got the 430 past 170; I had 4400 glorious miles on it and was offered a new 599; an opportunity I couldn't turn down.. 621 miles and counting

thx for the post...did you notice the rpm gauge had no redline on it...could there possibly be a difference between my car and his...my car's redline starts at 8500...fyi my run was done on a seven mile strait line stretch approx. 30 yds wide with no other vehicles present. I don't know if the driver had the throttle depressed the whole time 'cause of the "stall" at approx. 175 which could explain my "stall" at 195...maybe there is some sort of engine mechanism which kicks in at a certain speed

Guy I know has hit 327 km/h in his 599....car was still pulling. At that stage a squeak started to emit from the front passenger...;)

I've pinned the speedo on my 86 TR @ 193 mph. I plan on attempting to top out my 599 @ 200mph + at Road America for the FCA annual meet late July.

I'm just guessing here, but based on lower performance cars I've driven, the last few mph take a LONG time due to the wind resistance-- acceleration becomes almost imperceptible.

Or by "stall" do you mean the engine actually cuts out? In which case, that's a whole different deal.

forgive the term stall...I am no mechanic, I am an auto enthusiast...my definition of stall was pedal to the floor action without the speedo passing the 195 level; keep in mind I wasn't staring at the guage, but with quick glances I KNOW it didn't pass 200...I was at the 195 level for maybe 10-15 seconds before pulling off the throttle pulling to the side and thanking god for allowing me the pleasure of the ride...my point is I don't expect many opportunities to eclipse the double century mark and it would have been nice. i was curious if any other owners had done it

I can't imagine the labored breathing of being a passenger in a car going 200...I was alone in the car and air conditioner off windows closed and darnit, I didn't get there

I know this might not help but my 609whp Ford GT did 195.5 in the standing mile.

Perhaps I should start a seperate thread about his gentleman and his 599. To give you an example the day he collected the car he threw his luggage in and set off on a 1600 km round trip...on another trip his wife saw 270 km/h while he was sleeping...Have been a passenger in another 599 at around 295 km/h...with Tubi exhaust and that was pure music....

Doesn't sound right. Acceleration slows >195 or so, but not hugely. I would use the TFT and suggest not looking at gauges doing 300ft/sec. Should blow right on through. 190-195 ridiculously easy, first time I saw 190-195 I thought it was mid 160's. Downforce really works, you can feel it. Maranello and others got light >170 or so, this thing stays planted. You need room more to be able to stop than to Vmax. Brakes cool quite a bit up there, you need to get some heat in them before they feel normal. I've spent several minutes up top a few times. Fuel consumption seems to increase markedly. Who knew?

Why not? I have been on streches of the Autobahn for many minutes over 130 mph (my car doesn't go faster) where higher speed would have been easily possible. There still are times when you're nearly alone on the BAB. Video to prove my point:

A relative of mine has maxxed out his F40 uncountable times. Of course this would be very stupid to do in even moderate traffic.

Speedos are not necessarily accurate - they can - at those speeds - a few percent/5-10 MPH

I must admit, coming from a 430 I miss the cracking and popping of the exhaust system...I think a tubi may be in the future...there are two other 599 owners in my area one nero, one rosso; neither has a tubi exhaust...I would be interested to note if anyone has an audio example of such a system on my car

Take a look at these vids:

I recently saw a 599 with Tubi. Trust me, a sound clip does not do it justice. Sounds fantastic (as good as a 612 HGTC IMO).

I had my 599 to 336kph and could have gone faster but ran out of asphalt. 599 pulls very hard when shift into 6th gear at rev limit (car automatically upshifts at rev limit) at about 285 if I remember correctly. Car is absolutely stable and well balanced. I have done corners at 300 plus and was super impressed with handling. IMO 599 is rather boring below 200kph which is why I sold the car!!! Brakes are fantastic
