I've heard of a couple of 308s coverted into ersatz 288GTO clones.

But I've never seen the point to hacking up a perfectly good Ferrari to make a replica of something it isn't.

I might be able to see making a good from-scratch reproduction, from the original plans, of cars that are too rare for daily use.

But if you're going to all that effort, why follow when you can blaze your own trail? (E.g. pantera) -- especially given the state of the art in computerized rapid prototyping.

hmmmmmmm, turning one ferrari into another ferrari model isnt sacrilege in my opinion. But why do it? why not sell the ferrari and buy the other model you want if at all possible? ok, i know i cant turn a 308 dollar into daytona dollars. but theres my take. btw, yesterday im on spring right by the long beach airport and see a red 308 make a right turn in front of me, so i gotta catch up and check it out. i was all happy as usual when i see an f car. so i get up at its 5 oclock and cant hear the engine lullaby, uh oh what wrong here? suddenly i realize this is a replica, wrong proportions and all that. i had a vision of the three legged dog pics or the two headed snake pics, well you get my drift. why bother really? just drive what you have and work your ass off and buy what you want. nick

I bought a Ferrari F60 Enzo and stripped it down and made an F40 Replica.

I've never understood the negative approach on this stuff. I know I'm in the minority here, but if it's your money, and you have fun doing it, I'm all for any replica. Who cares? Does it hurt the value of your car? Just your eyeballs if it's done poorly, I guess. I even root for the guy with limited money who spends their only extra income on some neon lights for their Honda Civic. It's not my car, so why would I get upset or look down on somebody because they're spending their time and money on their hobby and they enjoy it? I may not like the look of it, but it's not my money or my car so what do I care...

I also love David Lee's Dino restomod, the GT40 replicas, the 250 SWB restomods from GTO, etc. So I"m all for it!

Sadly this is not a new idea

How many perfectly good 250 GTE's were destroyed to turn them into a fake 250 GTO etc?

It would not be so bad but 90% are so poorly executed the only thing achieved was to destroy a perfectly good car.

I think if it were done well and never attempted to be passed off as the real thing.
