A relative of mine has Chronic Fatigue, and I am not really up on this,
but was asked to do some checking around for a 'cure' or whatever.
So I thought I'd throw this out to the smartest guys I know. ;)

Anyone hear of any successful treatments? It's for my aunt who would
    probably be in her 60's.

    Thanks!
    Wes

It's not a weight issue. IIRC it is a mitochondrial or Auto Immune disorder. I know a gentleman in his 40's that is lean and suffers from Chronic Fatigue.

Irrelevant, Luke, to the information we have at hand. Weight is by far an issue until he tells us how fat she may or may not be.

There is no and has been no link to diagnosed CFS and elevated body fat levels.

More so than weight, free serotonin is a topic to be discussing. Is this relative on any SSRI's or SNRI's?

    BIL was diagnosed with it.

Turned out, SURPRISE!! he had depression.

Treated that, other problem went away. Took a while, but he's all squared away.

Right meds, good shrink, viola!!! (I'm actually being a little cavalier, it took some time, but he's a strong guy and worked through it.

luke - what the good Dr. is implying during process of elimination is exactly that. IF she's fat, she doesn't have CFS, 'cause there's no link, sausage links notwithstanding.

CF and CFS are 2 different beasts.

Well, she's not a very large woman, extremely active in fact, but likely
30 or 40lbs over (probably more, since I'm a bad guesser). But certainly
not obese or anything. Active cottage life...snowmobiles, etc.. Strong
woman all her life, then it just sort of petered out.

    Hope that helps!

Well, has she been diagnosed by a Doctor yet?

See, replies for "conquered" can be all over the map, 'cause Chronic Fatigue and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are 2 different things.

Ok, what is her diet like? I have seen some effect with a radical change in diet. For example, my father had a positive reaction to being placed on a 100% vegie diet.

And Luke, so little is know about this problem that there is almost nothing that could not be a cause. In a study by the cdc, 12% of the patients were classified as morbidly obese. And if you believe the national figures on the general % of Americans that are over weight, the number of people in the study that were likely 50-75lbs over weight is likely in the 70% range. So you can not discount excess weight at all.

CMV= cytomegalovirus is another possible problem. Diagnosed via blood work and symptoms in adults mimic chronic fatigue/ mono.

No treatment for it it has to just run its course.
