I don't like the looks of the shield on any road car (LOOK AT ME!!!!). However, I've always seen the add-on ones as expressing support for the Scuderia, not proclaiming the trash-smashing prowess of the vehicle.

After all, one doesn't have to be on the team to wear gear, and I've met many with even more serious indicators of their devotion...

Interesting and valid point and one that, admittedly, I did not consider. I have more Ferrari crap, including Scuderia hats, etc, then I care to admit. Heck, I have a giant metal Scuderia shield in my office!

All of which is in my support for the team (much like a guy who buys a football jersey). I never considered the shields on the side of the car in the same way...and I probably should have.

Mine came on the Dino. I'm affraid to take them off, with my luck the paint would peel off of something stupid like that, they have been on there for a long time I suspect. They look ok to me, team spirit and all that!

    Cheers!

I bought a set of magnetic ones off ebay about 6 yrs ago, stuck them on my 330 2+2 for a week or so. They've graced my bright-red garage toolbox since.

The 308 came with a pair of those thick transparent plastic ones at the usual places on the front quarters. An hour in the sun here and they peeled right off.

If an observer can't tell it's a Ferrari, they don't need to know.

Interesting, you should inform Luca de Montezemolo !!! :)

As I already wrote it is a distinctive attribute of Ferrari cars and we should be proud of, a lot of other car manufacturers would ''kill'' to have such an unique trademark.

This attribute is so distinctive and associated to Ferrari that virtually no other car maker even tries to do the same ...

If you like them on the car. Display them proudly. If not, take them off or leave them off. Your choice.

I would think Alfa Romeo may have the same, or perhaps more, historical right to its use.

6 shields on your car, not cool especially when you cant see the fender because the shield is the size of my lawnmower. Do you think a big zit is better than a small zit? In the case of the shield and the zit, smaller or not even there is better.

Like putting a 'track map' Nurburgring sticker on a car that has not lapped the track, it's just a tad bit gauche.
BTW - I have a 'Ring sticker on the back of my CRX, and a different one (the one J. Dean had on his Spyder) on the back of our BMW (both stateside so 99% of the people here don't know what it is), so I don't claim to be completely un-gauche :)

Ferrari's aren't the only italian car company to use an animal in their trademark, nor the only cars on which some owners advertise the mark on the side ;)

It does not matter, to me, what others think. It's your / my car. I have them on my 246 and 328. Both car had them on when purchased. And so they stayed on. I was complimented on them at Italian car day in Brookline Mass. and that was from a judge !
If a pair of shields defines your car from others so much the better. My Corvette Grand Sport has a "jake" decal on the windshield and that does not make it a "track" car. But I like it.
In the end, you have the keys...

Does it really matter if you got shields on the car or not. Depends on the owner. Maybe I will put the red tail lights on the outside.

BTW, the Scuderia shields used on the race cars in the 1950's were decals. Soak them in water, apply and clearcoat. They were neither cloisonne nor plastic.

OTOH with my wife I do not feel the need to use shields ...
