OK so I'm still undecided what do in regards to the exhaust on my 355 so I'm going to reach out to you who have seen and heard many 355s! Originally I wanted a Capristo or Armytrix exhaust but I'm hesitant to drop at least 3k on one before I do further research into alternate options.

So here are my questions and keep in mind my car has fabspeed headers and hyper-flow cats:

    1) If I fit a challenge exhaust, will the car be extremely loud even though I have cats?

    2) When I had my Porsche 993, there was a company (Fister) who would gut the stock mufflers and the car would sound a million times better.

Is there anyone that does that for 355s? Stock 355 mufflers are pretty cheap and I'd be willing to give that a try since it can't be that expensive to gut it and re-weld.

    Thanks!

I think it depends on what you are looking for. High pitched wail or throaty growl? Sound volume is subjective. My car has a custom built exhaust on it. I think it's too quiet while my friends think it's too loud. I also don't think it screams enough at full chat. Capristo has the best high pitched wail in my opinion. Challenge car exhaust is loud without the wail. Everything else is in between.

I think, and this is just me, that the stock muffler is a boat anchor (too heavy). Sure, you could gut it and baffling could be adjusted to the sound quality and level you prefer, but I think that is probably the worst choice to make.

Having built my own system, I can say this. These motors, despite the relatively small displacement are pretty loud, and any muffler is going be louder than you might otherwise expect. I was using a fairly large dynomax muffler designed for American V8's and it was too loud, despite being a fairly large stainless steel dual 2.5 in and out.

with your headers and HF cats.. im sure a Nouvalaru Supersport exhaust would be a good match and very well priced compared to others..!

I had stock headers and stock cats.. with just the Nouvalari SS and it sounded great..

car is currently undergoing a major and picked up Fabspeed headers.. so we'll see how it sounds in the spring..with stock cats and Nouvalari..

I do like the high pitched F1 type noise and that's what I'm aiming for. That's the main reason I'm not looking at Tubi. Capristo def has that noise and so does Armytrix.

Problem is Armytrix doesn't have much resale so even though I can get a new one for the price of a used Capristo, the Capristo can be sold relatively easily if I decide I don't want it.

The Challenge exhaust loses the high-pitched noise.

Simply search out the real F355 Challenge race cars on YouTube and listen to their exhaust. It's tuned for power, not sound. Sounds like an F430, not saying that like it's necessarily a bad thing.

I had Fister IIIs on my 993 C4S and have a Tubi-style (no muffler) challenge exhaust on my F355 now. At idle the challenge exhaust (is louder than the Fister IIIs) and above 5K, it starts to wail, but not like the Tubi or Capristo.

I got the Capristo because I want the F1 sound and if I ever wanted to resell it, you have that option without losing too much money (I hope!).

That's what I noticed on Youtube but thought maybe it's so loud that the recording isn't completely accurate. I guess that rules out the challenge exhaust.

This is what's pushing me towards a Capristo, resale value...

    Thanks for the link!

I've had a Capristo 2 (which is louder than the 3 on primary, same on bypass), stock, and the challenge unmuffled exhaust on mine (all with test pipes). The capristo is pretty wicked on bypass, high pitched shriek that echoes on bypass. However, the challenge is pure race car - it gets the red mist going like no other. It also weighs about 8lbs vs 45 for stock and 25 for the capristo.

I had originally planned to just run the challenge exhaust on track and limited street but I can't make myself take it off. The sound when it hits around 7k and starts to echo off of the surroundings is unreal. It's different than the capristo - where the capristo is kind of on or off when you're on the bypass or not, the challenge is just varying degrees of mental. You drive along on egg shells to keep it quiet and then gradually open it up until it's full on race car - there's no on/off behavior like the capristo, it feels more natural. If you run primary cats and gutted secondary cats, it will have a more high pitched shriek (I have the opposite) but either way it's nuts - in a good way.

Here's the unmuffled challenge exhaust in the mountains. The sound doesn't do it justice but you can hear the echo off of the rock walls - which is what is really awesome. I got the same echo at the track off the jersey barriers - it kind of triggers something primal making you want to push the car. Could be good or bad, but all I know is that hitting the 8750rpm rev limiter with it is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

That's exactly what I was looking for, first hand knowledge. I'm still worried the challenge will be too loud though. I guess I should try to find someone local.

Same combo in my hardtop car, wouldn't want it any louder. Must be crazy in a Spider/GTS.
Normal non-car people even say it's amazing! I really doubt resale will be on your mind once you hear it on your car.

if I recall correctly there is only about 12 lbs difference between the OEM muffler and a tubi race exhaust.......not significant in any way.

Vs 26.5 lbs for the setup I was running. Like I said, boat anchor.

Ya, it's not what I will be running, but it was what I was running. It's all dirty and nasty, 3 years of daily driving in Guam is hard even on stainless steel.

    Just a very simple exhaust.

What I essentially did was take the upper exhaust path and route it to the muffler with the O2 sensors and EGT probes. The lower path had a pair of electronically actuated exhaust bypasses so that I could essentially run open exhaust when I wanted it to be loud.

My new exhaust system is going to weigh about 70 lbs or so (best guess).

Thanks for the link, that was definitely interesting to see.

Lol that is way too loud, it makes the F40 that comes after seem like a hybrid. My neighbors just had a baby last week and I can't imagine starting something like that up at 7 AM when I go to car shows.

Another short clip but still not the one I am looking for

Too loud....you might be right but it does "give me the fizz" as James May would say. It just sounds mean, like it wants to rip up the road
