My good friend Eric owns a very exclusive resort on the island of XXXXX and one day I was there having coffee and Eric said: "There is a very special guest coming today and I think you should stick around and meet him. " I asked him who it was and he only said this: "He likes the red cars too." Then I knew who it was. A very polite Hi and good morning and then we parted ways as Micheal had to finsih check in. I am glad I went for coffe that day.
It's rare to get him to stop on race day and sign anything, I'm sure... But I have a few things that prove that statement wrong.......
I think my sister's boyfriend's cousin's hairdresser's dad met him once, briefly. Not sure though, it could have been the hairdresser's mom..... This thread is funny! On a serious note, I would love to know if anyone here ever had the honor of meeting the man himself...Mr. Enzo Ferrari.
I suggest you refer to page 1 of this thread my post number 6 and it will prove the media fibbers wrong once again. Incidently, Gary TDF360 is behind me and there's a two more FChat folks in view in the photo. Goes to show you can't believe everything you hear and see on tv. Carol
I met him at a $10,000.00 a plate charity event I was hosting in Aspen 2 years ago and actually had the honor of sharing my table with him. He is a very humble and approachable person when he is outside the racing and media arena....and an accomplished skier. I'll post some pictures of the dinner and he and I skiing together tonight. Ok....I made that all up...sorry.
NO....................but i have cooked for him when he came down to melbourne for the GP 2004. when he paid the bill he gave the Black AME card which is only for ppl that are billionares
Ok, so in Monaco 1996 (his first year with Ferrari), I left my booking very late so I couldnt get accomodation in Monaco, I ended up getting a hotel in Nice. My travel agent gave me additions to my ticket which were local helicopter flights from Nice to Monaco and back on Saturday (qualifying) and Sunday (race). So Saturday morning, around 8:00, I am at Nice airport waiting for my chopper transfer. I checked in and the clerk from Heli-air Monaco says there is another passenger we are waiting for. So for a few minutes I am looking at my watch, staring at the ceiling -etc.. Passenger turns up and it is MS with his Indian trainer. So we walk through the airport on our way to the helicopter at a very brisk pace, he signs many autographs while walking but never slows down. Obviously it was an important morning, so I didnt bother him, he was deep in conversation with his guy for the 10 minute flight. I was sitting up front. Had a brief talk with him, wished him luck. My first impression was a very nice, humble, down to earth guy, not at all what the media would portray him as. The best bit was when we got to Monaco, he gets on a little scooter, puts on a plain white helmet, and off he goes by himself!
Yes, back when he raced for Beneton. I asked " would you sign right here, Please?" and he said " yes "... But I understand he is a good friend with our Ferrari Club Thailand's president and staff. And that he and Jean Todt are fond of Thailand. They stop by Bangkok for a short vacation just before Malaysian GP. They both are horonarary member of our club. We are planning to have them join our club meeting during their vacation..... but that's two years ago since planning.
During the driver's parade he didn't stop but at least his driver slowed down. Image Unavailable, Please Login
An even better memory (for me) was when he won the 2003 Canadian GP. On the cool down lap as he was entering the hairpin I had my flag out over the track and he drove beneath it. TV didn't show it until he'd already passed by. I have seen him come out of the garage to sign autographs, but that was on the Thurdays before the pit lane was open to the public.
I met him at the 2002 Canadian GP. We rode the elevator at the Intercontinental Hotel together (He was with his Assistant). Chatted briefly and he found out I was a Ferrari owner - not sure he believed me until we got to the hotel entrance where my car was parked He drove off in a mini van!
My wife and I have MS fans since his short stay at Jordan. Our grandson could say Michael Shumacher almost b4 he could say mama or dada. At the USGP in 2003 (the first year of the pitwalk) we left our hotel in Anderson at 5:30 am. There was a wreck blocking the exit of our hotel and we had to folow traffiic through a shopping center to get on the street so we could get on the interstate to Indy. When we got to Binford we were in the left turn lane (Binford was under construction, normally it would not have been a left turn lane). So I turned right into a highschool parking lot, only to find out there was no exit during school hours. We ask a student how to get out and he thought maybe the gate by the football field was open. By the time we got to Georgetown next to the track it was stop, stop, stop and u turn at 16th street. When we got on track it was 8am when we got to the Ferrari Pits we were at the back of a crowd 30 deep. That night we saw the event on the news and Michael came out and signed autographs along with Ross Braun. At the USGP in 2004 we were on the track b4 6am, don't know how people just kept waving us by. We were as close to the pits as we couild get then they came and got us and took us to the front of the line (at least it wasn't the back) At 8 they let us go it wasn't pretty we were swallowed up by the younger crowd. But the last fence had not been opended so we worked our way to the front then it opened we we got to the front. 9 am the Ferrai pit doors still not open. 9:20 they start to go up, crowd yells, they stop, then go back down. 9:30 they go all the way up. NO ONE EVER COME OUT TO THE CROWD! We are there until we are forced to move by INDY officals. At the USGP we don't even try, watch the local news and Michael is there signing autographs. Thae race was a farce I replaced my Michelins (which required new wheels) on my 308. At the first USGP at Indy I got my Michael Shumacher Hat signed by Ralph at the Williams autograph session. Like I said NOT EVEN CLOSE! stephen
The pitwalks have been hailed as a great idea to provide the public with opportunities to meet the F1 guys but I think they've been thrown into the deep end after growing used to their world of relative isolation. I've avoided the crowds and been able to meet Ross Brawn and Rubens Barrichello, but it seems a crowd always appeared around Micheal wherever he appears. Sad to say the USGP has walked on enough marshalls that I, along with many from Europe, now flag the Canadian GP and return home rather than stay a few days and go to Indy.
