Thinking of crazy stuff I've eaten on that thread in OOT, I was craving some brisket.

BTW, the lemon cake is notorious for neutralizing the said "battery acid", aka The Man.... :)

I think my best was 4 spoonfuls. I didn't know about the cake, we'd always wait it out eating peanuts as our mouths recovered (water never really helps the acid).

I still chuckle when I think back about it. When I was in Kirkland we went enough that Gene recognized us and it was hilarious seeing him yell at people - especially people who hadn't clued in to his system. I remember one time an elderly lady was in front of us (group of young guys) in line, picking up the catering for our husband's funeral. The daughter (sister?) who was scooping the brisket yelled at the group of us to carry out the cases of brisket, desserts and root beer for the lady; we delivered all of it to her car and came back and they gave us our lunches for free.

I really like his answers in the article you posted Dave!

How many people actually like it? "Nobody like it. The record is 9 spoonfuls."

Do you like it? "Nope. I don't touch it. I ain't stupid."

Yeah, Dixie's is definitely a local cultural experience that you be sorry to miss. Having said that, and being a Texan, it is about the worst excuse for BBQ I've ever experienced. I think it ranks right below a can of "Manwich". But the place has got panache, I'll give it that!

The dude and his place has character, but I personally prefer 3-Pigs BBQ just down the road from there.

I think their food/sauce is better.

I like them both...but given a choice, I would probably hit Three Pigs too!

Either Dixie's or Three Pigs would be fine after the garage tour.

Quite frankly, I find Dixie's to be pretty lame compared to Milt's. Milt has better quality meat, he doesn't slather toxic waste on it, and he doesn't offend the hell out of 75% of the people!

Milt is happy to serve and the sauce comes in hot, damn hot, and too damn hot varieties.

I'll never go back to Dixie's.

I have to go with Gary - 3 Pigs is the best in the area. Having said that, it totally sucks like all BBQ around here, but it's the best I've found. At least you can order brisket there, and not have to eat chopped BBQ that tastes like sloppy joes at Dixie's. But I do think that Dixie's is fun, which somewhat offsets the awful food.

Maybe this summer I'll have to have the group over to my place and we'll roll out the smoker and do it right. To show that I'm fair, I'd open myself up to the same nasty criticism that I've dolled out here. :)

Have we decided on which one for this weekend? Dixie's, 3 Pigs, or Milt's?

If not BBQ, we could always go to Ming's Place for dim sum. :)
