It has been a long week: undoing the top of the console, removing /cleaning all switches, opening the hazard switch with 7 connectors feeding to it ( to re-assemble I used small machine srews from Radio-Shack instead of rivets). I replaced the clicking relay, then bypassed the hazard fuse and... still no emergency flashers.Turn signals are working fine. Anybody can tell me if the console top itself has a "grounding" role to play? Suggestions? Thanks

That's odd, it usually happens the other way around, the hazards work but the flashers don't. The top plate of the console shouldn't play any role in grounding anything, actually it can't. The console is all fiberglass and fastened to a fiberglass floor too.

The power feeds into the hazard switch then out to the turn signals. If the hazards aren't working it sure sounds like the switch somehow is letting power through but not activating the hazards. I can shoot you the 328 wiring diagram if that will help.

Thanks for advice but i must point out that the under side of the console cover is metal and makes contact with the body of the car itself at the anchorage point in the back of the console (near the hand brake) ...I only realized this when the tiny bulb from the lighter went on while working on the console! On the diagram for '84 308 there is no reference to a ground however and I am questionning my hazard switch as well... Is tere a way to test it without removing it???

Doesn't your lighter have a + & - hooked up to the socket?, the bulb picks up its ground from there.

The newer cars must be different. On my '78 the entire console is glass and just fits around the handbrake.
