    In mid-February, I proposed this Technology subforum to Mods, because; We're menfolk, and damn it, we like Gadgets! Doodads! Doohickeys! Gizmos! Thingies!

    What actually prompted this was picking up a replacement bedroom TV - HD Widescreen LCD on Valentine's Day.

    It's equipped with QAM, which lets me view the HDTV realm, without paying more for premium channels.

    I like the fact I'm getting my money's worth for overpriced cable via these additional HDTV channels - and am still smilin' like I just popped the proverbial cherry.

    Be that as it may, I don't wish to replace the larger tubed flatscreen TV in the Living Room, nor do I wish myself nor readers to pay cable company a monthly lease for extra equipment when they could own it.

    Rather, particularly in light of next year's changeover from analog to digital;

    seek recommendations for a basic HDTV Converter/Tuner with QAM.

    All the QAM HDTV stuff is all real new right now, and there aren't a ton of products available. The ones that are, that I've seen, are geared towards the pro AV market. Consequently, you're going to pay for that exclusivity. I think you are better off just investing in a new HDTV that already has the QAM tuner in it. If you are still interested, check out the products from Blonder Tongue. If not there, call Toner Cable, and if it exists, they can get it.

    problem is a lot of converter boxes only play unencrypted QAM channels, adn the majority of cable QAM is encrypted.

    If they're unencrypted, try and track down a LG LST-3410a
